I agree, there hasn't been any reason for me to go either. I've also been disappointed with Dierberg's & Shop 'n Save lately. We finally got a Super Wal-Mart near us, so unless one of the other three has a great deal, I'm headed to SWM.
Is it me or has Schnuck's deal become almost non-existant as of late? :shrug7: I used to shop there exclusively, but now . . . I rarely go there; haven't been there in several months. Ofcourse I've moved to a new area so there are more choices, but even when it was just Kroger or Schnuck's I went to Schnuck's fairly regularly. Just trying to figure out if I've gotten to be a better deal/coupon shopper or if the chain has just fewer good deals than they used to.

The traditional grocery basket, after all expensives, including shrinkage, produced about a 1% net. The grocery chains did it on volume, while WM constantly "mugged" their vendors for lower prices. For a time, chains made extra money from the speciality sections, e.g. deli and pre-packaged meals, except folks are watching the pocket book. Now when fuel costs were high, it rippled through the food industry and prices for consumers went up. But, the manufacturers and chains aren't giving it back, even when it seems energy costs are lowered each day.
Even with all the tooting their own horns over cheap milk, I still can walk into Aldi and buy at a lower price.
Yeah, I'm happy about Aldi's 1.99 milk they have had lately. Until I saw that I though 2.50 was a GREAT sales price. Now I just buy several gallons when I go to Aldi's.
I realize they don't have a huge leeway for making money, but you would think in 'hard' times they would try harder to get people into their stores.
We have a Schnucks across the road from us so I used to love shopping there. But lately, not enough good deals to chase. We only really go there for emergencies.
I agree! I have never bought meat at Schnucks.I think their meat prices are outrageous, so I don't buy too much meat there.
I have 3 Schnucks, 2 Dierbergs, 2 Shop n Saves, and 2 Aldi within a 4 mile radius of me. I have a Kroger that is 16 miles from me.............Guess where I go???? Yup, Kroger even with the gas it is by FAR still my store of choice!
I only go into the other grocery stores (except Aldi that is) when there is a sale on something and they can double the coupon.
Dierbergs here use to take the $5.00 off coupon from Shop n Save and any other competitors but, stopped doing that in October. Yea, thats a way to get people in the door!! :(
I mainly shop Schnucks when I can use my double coupons. I've always liked Aldi's for the milk and snacks for my kids.
Where do you all find the best meat around STL?
I shop for meat based on sales. I usually buy my meat at Kroger though. They have a reduced meat bin too that often has some good things to choose from.
I get most of my meat from Sams, put it in freezer bags and store it in the freezer. I used to hate Sam's beef, but I tried it over the summer and it tasted good. Sam's regular prices often beat Schnucks and Dierbergs everyday prices. Since Greg and Laura took over, I think Dierbergs stores have gotten worse.
