Re: Closing Genuardi's Hi, I can confirm to you that both store you mentioned are closing including Chesterbrook too.
Edgmont (Newtown Square) Saturday, July 17th
Glen Eagle and Chesterbrook Saturday, August 21st
More will be eventually closing as their leases are up, but nothing has be mentoned yet. Only stores which are considered "red stores" will be closing. A "red store", obviously, is a store which is not profitable (in the red) where rent, electricity, employee wages, benefits, and other expenses overshadow what is being brought in by sales. All stores today considered a "red store" were once profitable 10 years ago and even up to 5 years ago. Genuardi's in Springfield, Wynnwood, Hershey Mills, Rockledge, St Davids, Roslyn and some others are profitable stores don't have to worry about closing when their lease is up. From the looks of it, most Genuardi's stores in a 10 mile raduis from the Philadelphia city limits will remain open and profitable, while Safeway will pull out stores from outside the raduis that are in the red. As for closing all the store, that is not going to happen. Why would Safeway close a store such as Wynnewood for example. The Wynnewood Genuardi's is the busiest of all Genuardi's stores, why would Safeway want to closed a profitable store? Again those three stores mention at the beginning of the post have been confirmed to closed and all employees have been notified and will be transfered to other Genuardi's. |
