    Safeway....bleagh

Did the Chill Out promo yesterday, got home opened a frozen pizza up and it looked really funky, checked the date on the box - expired DEC08 - 3 months past date.. bleagh - lesson learned, be sure to check the dates even on you frozen food. Now I can't find my receipt to get my money back either.

Yeah you got to check the dates. That is the bad thing about grocery stories these days. They don't seem to rotate their stock well.
I was going to do the bertolli sauces last week and found an entire box out of date. Do you know they put them right back on the shelf even after I pulled them and put them in another section.
    They expired in Oct 08.

I swear this is one of my biggest pet peeves.
it just totally oogies me out - when I got some Jimmy Dean sausage, only 6 weeks past expiration.

You can always take it back and exchange for one with current expiration date. If there is none on the shelf, perhaps CSR will give you a refund or get a similar product.

I hate when that happens. It's time consuming but while shopping I always check the dates on everything, not just refrigerated goods but frozen & dry stuff too. I've bought too many items with an expired date. Customer Service should let you exchange it.

If you are nervous about taking it back without a receipt then call store first before you go. I'm sure they will say there will be no problem returning or exchanging it without the receipt. Be sure to get the name of the person you spoke with on the phone. If your area has ordinances about selling outdated food they will be more concerned with having a report filed on them than you returning an item without a receipt.

I would have done that but I live 30 miles away and didn't think I'd br going back down there for awhile, not really worth it for $1.25, so I ended up throwing everything away no big, it just grossed me out. I did actually end up having to run back over to that area today so I stopped by and let CS know that I had got something that was 3 months past date and someone might want to check the other products. First they tried to tell me I had read the date on the box wrong, thenm they said if I brought the box in I could get a refund. I told them I wasn't so much concerned with getting my money back as I was that they had way past date product on the shelves. They didn't seem to think it was a big deal.

Last time this happened to me it was with yogurt - I am usually really careful but was in a hurry that day and had the 3 little ones with me so I was distracted. I was thankful that the product looked weird when I openned it or I would have probably fed it to the kids (who may or may not have complained - they were only 2 at the time). It was 5 weeks expired! I called the store and the woman was rude about it (totally unconcerned and I did not think she was going to go check the current stock), so I called Safeway 1-800 number and told them. They sent me a Q for a replacement (it was a Lucerne - Safeway product).

One day I was buying some cheese and the date on it was WAY over due (something like 6 months). Fortunately, I checked the date before I bought it so I did not get it. No one was around so I laid it out where hopefully someone would see it. Just saw in the paper that this particular Safeway has been cited for having rats. Fortunately, it is a Safeway that I hardly ever go to.

I recommend calling the manufacturer. They will send you out coupons. I have done this before when the store gave me problems. My comment was why would I think to keep a receipt for food I planned to eat! Typically the distributor stocks items and is supposed to be responsible for checking the dates on these! I ended up with 2 manu coupons for free!
