Confirmed: PowerPump Rewards Discontinued as of 9/12/09

On my receipt tonight, there is a warning that wasn't there just 2 days ago.

"Use your PowerPump Rewards! The Program is being discontinued as of September 12, 2009."

I'll be calling customer service tomorrow to find out what's happening (just our region or nationwide), but at least in Salem, Oregon, it looks like we'll miss out.

I'm sad to see this go. It was a way for me to make gas more affordable for our family, by piling up the rewards from the promos.

I just checked the SW site and,at least in our area, there is one more reward period after the one that ends on 9/12/09. It will end the begining of January. I too would hate to see this program end. :sad: We have benefited tremendously from a couple of tanks of super cheap gas each quarter.

I called Customer Service and they said, yes, PowerPump Rewards are being discontinued across the board as of Sept. 12th. The verbiage on the website allowed them to cancel it at any time, and they are invoking that right. And unlike before where if you missed using your rewards by one day, they could help you, any unused rewards will disappear for good on the 13th.

According to the CS rep, as of this time, they do not intend to replace this promotion with any other gas rewards program. They instead are going to be lowering prices of groceries in the store to make them more competitive.

I'm sad to see it go, but if they are actually lowering prices on groceries across the board, it won't be a bad thing, in my opinion.

I have just found out that Safeway is going to terminate the Power Pump Rewards program on Sep. 12th ! I am so sad as I love this program and was hoping that Safeway would continue it for a long time. I hope that management will reconsider as this is a great program that motivates many consumers to continue shopping and pumping at Safeway.

I got the same thing on the bottom of my receipt today too. I am so angry at Safeway in Roseburg, OR though that I now will have no incentive to go back. I was refused to be able to use a $10 off $50 today. The gas rewards going away only confirms my love of Albertson's. Albertson's welcomes couponers in my town and they are giving gas rewards. Their gas rewards seem to mount up quicker than Safeway anyway.
