HOT Safeway cashier would not take more than 1 coupon..ARRRGGGG

I went to my local safeway today to do some shopping. I hardly ever go there, maybe once every 6 months, but was stocking up on the v8 sale-buy 5, and they are just $1.99 each, with my IP 's for $1/1, a sweet deal at 99 cents each!!! I had 7 coupons, from my computer, my aunts, my sons laptop, etc..the cahsier would not take the black and white ones, and would only take 1 of the colors, said coupon said once per product..yes, I had 7 products, etc...she asked whomever on duty, who said, 1 coupon, thats it...this after I politley and calmly explained black and white simply to save on ink cost, copies can be made in color also, and each coupon had differing exp. dates, so that says not copies...nope, she would not budge....bought the v8 anyway, still good at 1.99 here, but was not happy. then asked about the mda coupon book, and she would only let me have one if I made a donation....makes me remeber why I never shop at safeway..arrgggg.

That is their new IP policy. 1 Q per like item. I ran into that a few months ago. Makes it very difficult to stock up on good deals because you have to break them down into individual transactions. It isn't worth the time for onesy-twosy transactions. They rarely have good enough deals to make each trip pay off.

That's not the official policy that's online. Safeway - coupons policy

Sounds like stores are making up their own rules.

Safeway is the worst store I have ever shopped. the 2 here are about like a glorified 7-11 store. the checkers are the worst

I dislike the "MUST make a donation to receive" - because a donation CANNOT be REQUIRED - if it is required it is a PURCHASE!

I live in a small town and the 2 SW that are "near"me(like 40 minutes away) both are super nice, but maybe they have to be because they have Walmart across the street as competition. I never run into any of these issues.

I also never use IPs anymore, one my printer broke and 2 I always ran into issues with IPs, too much fraud issues and checkers are leery of them.

True, but when I objected, the checker had a copy of the new policy from Corp. I also called Corp. the same day and they verified the new policy. It just hasn't been updated online.

Im confused. The new policy sounds like the old policy? 1 Q per item is the standard '1 coupon per purchase'...isnt it? Which is not the same as 1 per transaction. (Had that argument with a young Walmart boy yesterday. I won, of course)

I went through Safeway yesterday and when I bought 4 items I used 4 coupons, manufacturers and store coupons. I did that with many items yesterday and brought a $58 bill down to $16. I also used 9 Free Petfresh coupons which are 1 per transaction so I went through the self-checkout and scanned the product, scanned the coupon, check out for free, and did it again another 7 times.

I REALLY wish the coupon world would become a bit more uniform and efficient. There needs to be a common standard that is easily understood and simple to adhere to for stores and customers alike.

I believe you can still use as many insert, tearpad, etc type coupons as you want. It's IP's (printables) that they are limiting to one like coupon per trasnsaction. So you couldn't use two IP's for the same items (2 packages of Kraft cheese, for instance), but you could do one Kraft cheese, one Hormel, one Gortons, etc. Just not two IP's of the same.

I'll see what my store does today. With the Smithfield bacon I have two IP's that also are MORE than 50% of the item cost. Hope they take them.
