Default Buying Food online @ Safeway.com

Hey everyone! Newbie here!

I was wondering what kind of luck folks have had buying their groceries online at safeway.com. It's kind of neat to be able to buy all your hot dogs and buns online, but I'm a bit worried about the delivery and their choice of goods. I don't know if I trust them to pick out the best apples, you know?

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I didn't see anything on the front page. Delete if need be! :)

I've used Safeway.com before and it works just fine. My mom used it a lot since she had a disability and couldn't do the big shopping. They do a good job of shopping for you, they try to shop as if it was for themselves. You can also put notes or whether or not they can substitute etc. The only issue is that you can't really use your coupons and you need to read the descriptions carefully so that you know what size, etc. you're getting.

I've ordered online in the past as well (right after 1st baby was born) and you can put notes in next to your items. Like for example I would put with my bananas to get the greenest ones possible (for my birds) and with the granny smith apples I would say "please check to ensure I get no bruised apples" because they are horrible about selling bruised apples. And I got exactly what I asked for.

I don't shop online with them on a regular basis though. If something is out of stock then you have to indicate if you want a different brand or size or nothing at all so for the couponer in me that just doesn't work because there is no raincheck option. Also they did not take coupons back then (although I've had that point debated by others since then) so again not a great option.

I do however use the online shopping interface to price check almost every week.

Sorry to tack this on but I also feel like shopping online with them is cost prohibitive. Unless you get an amazing promo code or spend more than $150 on one order, there is a delivery fee and it seem like it keeps going up too although I honestly don't know what the current delivery fee is.

I'm right there with ya, CA Mom of 1. For a couple of years I shopped via safeway.com but eventually I found that I could get better deals at the brick and mortar store. That said, my local store happens to deliver and it makes my real life shopping really easy. In fact sometimes I feel like they get too much of my grocery budget.

They do double and drop awesome $10/50 coupons at least once a month here, so it pays to go there and to go in yourself. However, I do enjoy knowing what the online specials are just by virtue of being on the site pretty often. When I did get things delivered my quality experiences ran the gamut, but their drivers and the people at their toll free number were awesome in the category of customer service.

My husband and I have recommended the service to many people and it wouldn't take a lot to get me to shop from them online again. In fact, I might look into idea of using coupons with their site. I'm also noticing that the prices have gone up on the delivery fee, but I think that they are offering more and more special online promotions.
