Default Safeway NW - IP policy

I found this on their website and copied it here, hth:

    Safeway's Printable Coupon Acceptance Policy

Effective September 2008, all Safeway owned stores accept legitimate, printable manufacturer’s and in-store coupons (“Printable Coupons”) pursuant to this policy. We recently engaged Coupons, Inc. to offer Printable Coupons on Safeway - Ingredients for Life and the websites of other Safeway owned companies. Help us make your shopping experience a pleasant one and prevent the abuse of this program by keeping in mind the following rules applicable to Printable Coupons.

We can only accept Printable Coupons if they scan properly at the register. Printable Coupons are delivered using special software, designed to print a properly rendered barcode and limit the number printed.

It is not an industry practice and we will not accept Printable Coupons for "FREE product" (i.e., no purchase required). Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other varieties that have a purchase requirement are acceptable.

We will not accept Printable Coupons for more than 50% of a product's value. For example, a $2 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that sells for $5 or more, but a $2 off Printable Coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 will not be accepted. If there are exceptions, we are usually provided an advance notice by the applicable manufacturer upon which we will pass the appropriate savings, if any, onto you.

Printable Coupons will be rejected if they appear to be distorted or blurry, or are altered in any way or copied. You should always print them directly from the website or email that is offering it. Printable Coupons will never appear on your computer screen or sent as a graphic, PDF or Word document.

Printable Coupons are non-transferable, and should not be copied, scanned, sold, traded, or otherwise distributed to others. They have unique serial numbers printed on them and follow an industry-standard format.

For more information about using Printable Coupons and to check for validity please visit the Coupon Resource Center online at www.printcoupons.com.

    Re: IP policy

My Safeway in Colorado has changed their policy to not accept ANY IPs at all, including any from Safeway.com After emailing Safeway corporate they checked into it and they stated:

"Upon receiving your email, we contacted the store and spoke to our associate, Aaron. He advised that they do not accept Internet coupons. However, sometimes they receive some notices saying not to accept coupons for some items. Your original comments along with your latest email have been forwarded to our Marketing Department for review and consideration. Please be assured that your concerns will be addressed. "

This sucks, I can see them losing business from me for sure. I have an Albertsons and a King Soopers(Kroger) to still shop at that do take IP's.

I'm in Colorado too. Sorry your Safeway is giving you problems. My Safeway is very coupon friendly. I had some problems with IP's back when there was that overflow of altered ones from one website, I don't remember now what site it was. Maybe they didn't get the message that IP's were ok to take now. Hope you get a positive response.

They now a have a policy online here:
    Safeway - coupons policy

    I haven;t had anyone follow this part.....yet:

We will not accept Printable Coupons for more than 50% of a product's value. For example, a $2 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that sells for $5 or more, but a $2 off Printable Coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 will not be accepted. That's supposedly only for IP's, but you never know.

This is odd. Picked up free strawberries Q on 'their' website.

    Used them yesterday.

I originally thought the same thing regarding the strawberry coupon but I reread the statement. It says "(i.e. no purchase required)" and the strawberry coupon says "limit one with minimum $10 produce purchase" so it does fit their rules.

As to the limit on $ amounts "We will not accept Printable Coupons for more than 50% of a product's value." aren't we glad our stores aren't enforcing this!
