My Safeway told me a long time ago that they accept only one like IP, but I don't think there's any limit on "regular" coupons.

At my safeway they dont give me any trouble about IPs but they have told me (depending on the cashier...The front end Mgr is THE WORST) That they will only "double" the first three and after that it's face value. I tried to get around that by using $1/1 Q's if I can. Then SHE told me, when I was doing the Bertolli deal with the $1/1 Q's, that I could only use three like Q's (period) and I pointed out to her that that ISN'T what she told me the last time I was here, and she reluctantly took them all. Now I just try to go in when she's not there, cause she watches me like I'm a shoplifter, and she makes all her cashiers watch me too. You should see it...she doesnt even try to hide that she is pointing me out and talking about me. I HATE HER!!!!! :hectic1: She's just jelous(sp) cause I can get my groceries for .20 on the dollar and SHE CAN'T.

I stopped at a store on the way home from Reno (to Ca) today to do the electrasol deal. This was all I was getting and I put the coupons right in the basket with the electrasols x8. She rang it all up and said, "Just so you KNOW next time you can only use 1 coupon...It's called "double couponing" and its NOT allowed". Since I don't live there and she already rang them all through I just said "OK".

I don't know why people always have diffent "rules".

I've run into that interpretation of 'double coupons' once or twice. We don't usually have them around here so I assume they are just clueless. Maybe since we know more about couponing than many of the cashiers and managers we run into, we should have a section of HCW for training them (or maybe there is, I haven't actually looked), seeing as the stores largely aren't doing a good job. I think many of them are just ignorant, not intentionally annoying, and afraid of losing their jobs if they do something wrong. I'm sure there are valid concerns about coupon fraud, and they probably get yelled at from higher-ups periodically, but they need to strike a balance so they aren't turning away good customers.

I had 23 Quaker thingies in my cart, rung them up, then was told I could use 5 coupons "because that was a reasonable amount". :shrug7:

So what's the definition of "reasonable"? lol I bought 12 Quakers in one shot. No one blinked an eye.

I almost had a problem about "doubling" the other day. No one in the state of Alaska has EVER doubled coupons. Never. Doesn't happen. I had a store and MF for something.....say Capri Sun for the sake of argument. The cashier (not one I usually go to) said I couldn't use one of them because I didn;t get two. Explain the store/mf, yes you can thing. She turns around and asks one of the manager gals (and she's been there a long time, too). The manager gal says "as long as it doesn't say not to double" after twice I've said rather loudly "that's NOT doubling".

These gals must have never been to the lower 48 or have heard what actual doubling of coupons means. Everything went through and I didn't have to argue any further, though. I was somewhat floored that this gal hadn't a clue about real doubling.

If anyone is interested, someone on a blog I follow found the offical Safeway IP policy. Our stores in DFW are Tom Thumb's so this is on their site but I would imagine it's on all their store sites. Tom Thumb - coupons policy

Too bad it doesn't address limits, I guess they're leaving that up to the indvidual stores.

I'm starting to think maybe she also got confused on the wording.
I actually called my store today and asked them specifically about IP coupons and she told me that its 1 item per coupon and you can use as many coupons you want in a transaction, as long as you have that number of items or more. I specifically asked this because they have VFusion on sale for $2.49 and I got IP coupons for $2 - and I was able to keep hitting the back button and print lots. I love that stuff, but its expensive, so I called my store before I went down there to buy it.
