I have been having THE hardest time with q's and cats lately. I have been on HCW for a while now. I was completely NEW to q's....cats...rolling deals all of it. I follow the q's and cats to the "t" when it comes to the policy. I tried to use 14 Bertolli q's last night and was told the usual "one per purchase only" I, of course, had 14 q's for EACH item to be purchased. Asked manager and was told ok. Then I tried to use my Bertolli cats and was told again one per transaction. Well, there is NO restriction on there that says so. I have read it thoroughly and more importantly, I have used multiples at TWO other stores locally with no problems at all. I have even used multiples at THAT store just a few days prior. I sent a LONG letter to corporate today and am awaiting a response. I happen to live about 5 min. from the corporate building so I just may need to take a drive on over. This coming from a quiet, mild-mannered, avoid confrontation at all costs customer. I am not one to easily get and let it get to me but this is getting beyond ridiculous. Thanks for allowing the vent session. I do feel better. TY for all your help and guidance since joining. to all who've helped.

I was told the same thing one night, but I explained to the cashier the difference between "per purchase" and "per transaction." She said "well, I'll go ahead and take them. I may be wrong, I'll check tomorrow." So, I got lucky with that one. But I've had this problem before. Try to find coupons that you won't necessarily use, one each that has the different wordings and keep these as examples. This seems to work most of the time.

But I would talk to corporate. It's really frustrating that they don't have cashiers trained in this.

Sorry about your experience. I was treated not very respectfully the other day because of my coupons. I tried really hard to keep my cool (almost lost it). They apparently think couponer are trying to rip them of instead of being smart. And most of them are really not very educated about q's. Well, that's their problem. I shall not let them rip off my happiness of doing deals.

I had the same problem using the Pledge cats (cashier said he would only take one). I was not doing the LW deal with them - just using them on things I needed. I really got him though when I made him ring things separately so I could give him one cat at a time since that is what he wanted.

Volunteer, be very careful about complaining to SW. I had a very valid concern about a certain manager making up his own rules, (literally), following me, actually stole my cart with items in it, loud and accusatory, slanderous, etc. The long and the short, I was banned for one year from any SW. Not saying don't complain, just be aware things may not work out the way you want and to be careful of your wording,

I thank you for your concerns and appreciate everyone's responses. If I were banned from a store, damn straight I would be on the line to EVERY newspaper and local consumer affairs dept. of every station in my area. We have 9 million people around here and if they really want so upset us all, I am thinking sales will slow down some. As I said, I am a happy-go-lucky, easy going, go with the flow type of person, but enough is enough. It's a store, and WE are the consumers. If we don't like policies, which aren't even followed company-wide, then it's my place to make that known. I've been shopping their store for 30 years, I think they could at least read a simple coupon and understand what it means.

I appreciate this thread. My catalina actually printed but the cashier forgot to give it to me. I noticed before I left the register area. I always check my receipt before I leave since coupons don't always scan or something is forgotten. I stopped at the customer service desk to check coupons that weren't credited to my purchase. The employee was dismissive and rude. I usually come home excited to brag about my purchases. I was so offended that I called customer relations to share my disappointment. The operator was really nice and has credited my Safeway card with a 10% off each purchase for the next month. I'm still not motivated to go back but I was happy someone cared.

I had a similar issue today. Was doing the LWPromo with a bunch of coupons. Handed over the newspaper-clipped ones first. The checker (whose nametag said he was also the store manager) just started scanning without looking at them. When he got to the first internet printable (I had 6 - 2 each of 3 separate coupons), he read every single fine print on the coupon before trying to scan and told me I could only use one because they said "one per purchase." I explained the difference between a purchase and a transaction - to which he said that I was wrong and that purchase and transaction mean exactly the same thing and that using more than one constitued fraud. Ugh.

Here's the thing though - when I got to the car, I realized that I had also used 3 of the exact same Bertolli coupon clipped from the paper - which the same individual scanned without a word. AND THEY HAD THE EXACT SAME "ONE PER PURCHASE" WORDING ON THEM!
