Safeway - GDA: Cheap cards plus Mother's Day gift

Myy local Safeway Pharmacy counter has a pad of coupons for "Buy 1, Get 1 free" coupons for Hallmark. The coupons are good on the $.99 cards. I grabbed one (they had an ENTIRE stack!) and went to the card aisle. Right now they also have the "Buy ANY 3 cards, get a Journal Free" deal going for Mother's Day.

Here's what I did:

6 cards @ .99 each = 5.94
2 Journals @ 4.99 each = 9.98
- $2.97 (3 coupons for B1G1)
- $9.98 (automatic @ register)
= $2.97 for 6 cards AND two journals

I've only done this once per transaction, but last month I did this twice in 1 transaction with no problems during the Easter deal! I received cute, cheap basket stuffers for the kids! :)

My pharmacy never has coupons out. Should I just ask for them? I guess it never hurts to ask but you would think that if they had them then they would put them out, right? Thanks.

My Genuardi's had a special table out with "Buy 2, get 1 free" coupons. It was a big push for mother's day b/c they also had tearpads for 4.00/dozen roses when you buy any card. The journal promo was still running, so I bought 6 of the .99 cards and 2 journals--paid 3.96!

I found a peelie of buy 3 expressions from hallmark greeting cars, receive a FREE bag of Ghiradelli squares chocolate, exp. 5/10/09, up to $5.99 value. Since the register takes off the journal automaticly, you may also use this coupon to get a bag of chocolate for free. I think I got both chocolate and a candle holder free for every 3 99cent cards last year.

ETA, sorry about the misleading info about the peelie. It's actually a tearpad coupon found at a stand alone display of ghiradelli square cholcolate.

Wow! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for any free chocolate coupons. My MIL loves chocolate, especially free! :) Where did you find the peelie?!?

My store had a tearpad for $1/1 multi-pack coke bottles or 2 2-liter bottles when you spend $4 in deli, produce or meat. This might be a good deal with the free 8-pack of coke bottles WYB 3 cards. Even better if you can use the buy 1 get one free coupon... Then buy 6 cards for $5.94 and get 2 8-packs of coke. Then use 3 Buy one get one free card coupons so pay $2.97 then use two of the $1 coke coupons (assuming you buy $8 in deli, produce or meat) and then pay $0.97 for 6 cards and 2 8-packs of coke.

Did I calculate that right?

I also found a display in the organic section for a free cascaidan farms bar at check out when you use your sw card.
