A question about super coupons and minimum purchase

I went to Safeway tonight and tried to purchase some items using both sales, manf. coupons and super coupons which had the usual $10 minimum purchase, but none of the Super coupons went through. The manager ended up taking them off manually, but I am trying to find out if it was my error or the stores...

I am wondering if the "minimum" purchase requirement of $10 (on the super coupon) is based on regular price, club card price, before or after manf. coupons, and before or after super coupons. Does that make sense??

For example lets pretend that Ketchup is 3.79 regular price, and club price is 2.50, but you have a super coupon for .99, and a manf. coupon for .50. What value would be counted toward your minimum purchase requirement of $10 to be able to use the super coupon?

Here is what I have found thus far- minimum should be BEFORE MQ's but AFTER club card price. In your example you would need (10) .99 items to get over the $10 mark (assuming you have tax). The Super Qs require a club card and coupon so I found they won't scan until you give your club card. I do club card, super q's then mq's.

Hmm...that's what I was assuming... but it didn't work for me. I scanned my club card first, then handed the coupons (the super coupons were on top, mf on bottom). I wasn't closely watching the cashier (I was panicking since I had left my wallet at home - luckily I had put a credit card in my pocket from earlier that day - phew!), but I assumed he did them in order. So tax counts toward the minium purchase requirement? I find it a little suspect that NONE of the store coupons went through. I am thinking about trying it again today though and this time I WILL be watching!! LOL.

My understanding is that super coupon items DON'T count towards the minimum purchase...as they require a $10 purchase to use them. So if you had only super Q items -the register would beep.

Yes there is a $10 minimmum but you can buy a gift card to use next time (good way around it)

I always give them my card AFTER they hit subtotal and I haven't had any problems with beeping. Last week, my subtotal was ~$36.00 and after card and super q's and manf. q's my OOP was about $8.xx

I have another question about the super coupons...it says One Offer per Coupon and One Coupon per customer. Does that mean I can only use that super coupon once on my club card or is it like one coupon for visit? I want to go back and use a set of super coupons I already used, but I don't want to get rejected -- does that happen?

judymd - what do you think that hitting subtotal first does? At my safeway, I have tried sometimes to stall putting in the card, but they always prompt me to do it before they are done. Do you have any trick to waiting till the end?

When the hit the subtotal, it has this ridiculously huge number, then I give them the card, and it goes down, and then the coupons and it goes down even further.

I just don't give them my card until they are done. Usually I have my DD with me, and they can clearly see I have my hands full, I'll pretend to dig in my purse for my card, then I say, oh, let me just plug in my number.
