| Hot to compile a "wish list"? I see many members with loonggg wish lists.
I buy what on sale each week at my 2-3 stores in my area (if it's a good price for me) and that's what we eat.
I always buy Scott tp and sometimes haagen dazs icecream, but am not brand specific.
So, how do I make a "wish list"?
If I knew something was on sale for B1G1 and I had two coupons, I would buy it if it's something we eat. But I would not know I needed these coupons until I see the sale flyer, or see one early online here.
So, are these members' wish lists things that they buy, no matter the price?
Help?

| Re: Hot to compile a "wish list"? For me, my WL consists of products we use or eat regulary. For example, dh eats mission tortillas, so I'm always ISO any coupons for that product. They rarely go on sale, and lowest price I can find is $2.98 at SWM (dh has to have the carb balance wheat ones), so I always pick up a pack or two coupon or not.
Then there's some items on my WL and trade for, just hoping for a sale. An example of that would be Wholly Guacamole. Its a family favorite and Winn Dixie sells them 2/$5. If they don't go on sale 10/$10 before my coupons expire, then I'll stock up at $1.50 using my $1 coupons.
Once you've been couponing long enough, you kinda get a feel for the sales cycles. Like right now, grits/oatmeal aren't on sale, but coupons for Quaker oatmeal do exist, so I have them on my WL and hope I get a match to trade, so when they do go on sale, I'll have the coupon(s)
You are right though, sometimes you don't know whats going to be on sale until you actually see the ad. I think thats more for the grocery stores. And you should have plenty of time to trade for what you need if you jump on it right away.
The drug stores, we know weeks out whats going to be on sale by the sneak peak ads. Like this week with the SoyJoy deal at CVS. I was only able to get 2 bogo coupons from the inserts, so I had to trade for enough coupons so I could do the deal along with my sister. I had those puppies 2 weeks before the sale started thanks to the sneak peak ad!

| Re: Hot to compile a "wish list"? i LoVE , love, love looooooong wishlists, esp and most importantly if they're CATEGORIZED!!! lol i use the Q trains, so the longer the list, the better it is for me, to help someone out. my suggestion would be to make a list, of everything you use, almost wkly, monthly.. CATEGORIZE, it :P, hee.. then each month, you can go back and just highlight it and put it in BOLD.. and add stars by it..... and note those are the items, you are IVDNO.. (something like that, in dire need of Idso.. So thats my suggestion. hope that helps~ I'm finding wishlists are Essential for trades and the more couponing I do. ..

| Re: Hot to compile a "wish list"? there are alot of reasons people put things on their wishlists:
insert coupons that came out they want
non inserts seen in store/listed here/got in a trade they will use
printables that are good
baby/dog stuff they use
the items on wishlists that are long term, are those that people use all the time. for me it is the $1/1 ANY nabisco cracker because these go on sale at cvs for $1 for the smaller pack. so free. between my family and my sister's family we will eat whatever we get.
there are other items like the ones if you could find you know you will use. for me right now it is the buy 2 oscar mayer hot dogs get free fun fizz because it has a 2011 expiration date. my kids love turkey dogs.
many of us stock pile certain things. good deal on ketchup, i will get 10...good deal or good coupon on hidden valley ranch, i will buy lots....nesquik syrup the same thing. there are those certain items that we use alot of that will last in a pantry. pepsi is another.
the reason to stockpile these items is once you realize that x goes on sale once every 6 weeks for $1 but is normally $2, you will wait for it to be $1 and use your coupon vs buying it at $2 with a coupon.

| Re: Hot to compile a "wish list"? I agree with Whispered!! I also ride a lot of trains! I'd much rather HAVE a coupon when I need it, then NOT have one!! Yes, I do end up with some Q's that I don't use because there's not a good deal or I'm well stocked, but I try to note that in my wish list ("good for now"), then once my stock is depeleted or I've used up my stash of Q's for that item, I delete that note (and depending on where I am, may change it to IVDSO)!
In your case, since you're not brand specific, it would be a good idea for you to post your wishes by what you're looking for in a Q...for example, I'm thinking Ice Cream, do you prefer $/1 or $/2? Does your store double Q's? If so maybe you'd be okay with a $0.50/1, whereas if you don't have a double deal you might prefer at least a $1/1?? Or do you prefer Q's with longer expiration dates? Maybe things that you don't buy weekly/monthly, but find yourself buying several times throughout the year...you could state that you need at least 2+ months expiration. Also, you might want to note brands that you have (or don't have) available in your area.
I suggest sneaking a peak at other's wishlists!! That's how I ended up putting mine together. Folks that had wish lists that I enjoyed using was how I tried to set mine up!
If you need help with the logistics of building both a database wish list and forum wish list, let us know!!

| Re: Hot to compile a "wish list"? When I get each ad for each store, I add what I will be needing to my wishlist. love early previews for that reason.
I also check the database by date like 08-01-10 and see what came out recently that I know hope or think will come on sale at my stores before the coupon expires. Some items are always a set price at my stores so I regularly check for coupons on these items.
I also check mail in rebates regularly in the database and figure I have all month to trade for them. I search by IP for new IP's every week or 2 to see which ones I wouldnt mind having extras of.
The better my wishlist the more likely I am to get great train, trade chain or potluck trade envies. Also helps my chances of a member having enough things on it to approach me for a trade.
