Default Trading tips and etiquette

Tips
  • Ask for a valid email address from traders, this helps if you need to report this member as a bad trade to lists such as garnetts bad trader list.
  • Check feedback of the person you are trading with. It is ok to ask for feedback from other sites via pm, but not ok to post links to outside sites in the public forum
  • If doing a large trade with a new member it is perfectly ok to ask to hold your end until you receive their end. But if you are going to hold, you MUST disclose this to the trader.
  • Put your HCW name in or at least on the envelope so that the recipient knows who its from.
  • Keep a record of your trades (Name, address, HCW screen name, what you sent, what they are suppose to send, date you mailed your end, date you received their end and if you left FB. I use excel to do this for me).
Etiquette
  • Be considerate of other traders!! If another member contacts you about a possible trade, please try and respond to them in a timely manner. It's no fun to miss out on potential trades because you are holding coupons waiting for someone to respond!!
  • Please remember that unlimited posting does not mean you can post for the same iso or trade offer over and over to keep your posts at the top of the forum.
  • The same goes for bumping. Do not bump posts more than once per day. It is considered bumping when the op responds to his or her post with words such as "bump" or just smilies. It is also considered bumping when the op periodically add to his or her op with updates periodically throughout the day vs. editing the op.
  • Help keep our trading froums clean!! Once a trade has been made and coupons are no longer needed, please update the title of your post to either "traded" or "delete" so a mod can remove the post.
Please feel free to add any trading tips to this thread. The OP will be updated as needed.

Bump. I have recently received a PM from a member asking about holding trades. And while these are not rules, but more of guidelines for trading, I think it is prudent that our members know that you should not hold a trade unless that information has been disclosed to the other member. And that if you do hold a trade and a member misses a deal or sale because your coupons did not come in time because you mailed late, this is considered a bad trade.

Leaving feedback in a timely manner is good etiquette. I'm always surprised when a trade goes well, I leave positive feedback, but the other trader never bothers to do the same. It's a simple courtesy that should not be overlooked.
I don't consider my end of the trade completed until I've received the goods and I've left feedback.

Backing out of a trade when negioating b/c you find out a sale makes the item free is rude in my opinion.

also, putting out a WL especially IDSO list and when someone responds, the one who is ISO doesn't even bother to reply within a reasonable time. isn't that rude? it doesn't take much to say you changed your ISOs or a simple NO thanks is enough; but to just ignore the one making an offer is outright rude. JMO.

I don't know where to put this so I'm putting it here. Please move if it's in the wrong place. What is the average number of coupons you normally trade? I don't have a lot but I would like to start. If I said I had only 5 to 10 of one type of coupon is that not enough to do a trade?

Heres a list of acronyms LINKY. i will pm it to you as well.

tagging is fairly new at HCW. When you make a post you can "tag it" with key words that apply to your post so it will show up with a search.

If I may...I'd like to add something that I consider good ettiquette...or just plain common sense.

If you have limited access to a computer, or your time on HCW is limted because of your schedule...please let other traders know about this.
For example: On Friday afternoon, Trader A sends a PM to Trader B, asking if they would like to trade some specific coupons. Trader B reads the PM on Friday evening and responds, holding those coupons aside for the trade. BUT...Trader A can only access the computer at work, and is off for the weekend. Trader B doesn't know this, and thinks the trade is a no-go, so they trade the coupons to someone else. Trader A responds on Monday morning, only to find out that the coupons are gone.

This could be avoided if Trader A had mentioned it in the first PM
