RA finally succeeded in losing me as a customer - UPDATE So sorry everyone - this is way too long, but I must vent. Only fellow couponers can truly understand.
I experienced a little nightmare at RA tonight - I still can't believe what happened!
My previous issues with RA have been related to being told I can only use 1 like coupon in a transaction because of the wording “One coupon per purchase”. That kind of problem just started this summer – previously RAs in my area have been coupon friendly.
Well tonight reached a whole new level and I believe RA has lost me for good.
I had planned to purchase the Renu contact lens solution on raincheck from when it was free earlier in the month.
I had a few other coupons, including a $5/$25 and my total was near 38.00.
Cashier just entered the Renu regular price with a price adjustment, so I asked her to make sure it shows up as "raincheck" on the receipt, so that I could enter it online to get my SCR. She said she didn't know how to do that and had never heard of that. She asked the other lady in the store who also didn't know how to do it. Both of them work different stores, this is not their usual location.
I said I've done it in the past, so cashier asked me where? I said, "I don't know, could have been another one, not far away - I don't remember, it's been a while."
Then I suggested she call the other store to see if they might know how to do it.
So she did.
And she was on the phone for a while, saying "Uh huh....uh huh....yeah....I hear you...." Etc.
When she got off, she said that the manager at the other store told her I'd already been to their store that evening doing the same transaction and that since I was only allowed to use the $5/$25 once, it would be fraudulent to try to use it again!
What???
I said, "You have to be kidding!" I had not been to RA since Aug. 8. That was the week the Renu was free after SCR and I had just came back in tonight because it's the last day for submissions in August.
She said that in fact, I'd been to RA stores all over, that they "know about me". She added that the other manager had given a description, so she knew it was me.
I told her to call that manager back, and get a better description and to tell her I haven’t shopped RA in 3 weeks - which she did, but I couldn't hear half the conversation. (I should have gotten on the phone myself, but I was really shaken and I didn't think I could keep my head straight and my voice was unsteady) She told them what I was wearing and kept saying "Um-hum...." again. She did say at one point, "She's a little taller than that, about 5' 8'"
When she got off, she said they'd let me do it just this one time, but pointed out that if I tried to do this again, they would put a stop to it.
????? She still thinks I'm that person! (if there even is one...) It was so very upsetting that she was relying on the word of an employee at a different store who couldn't even see me!
This is what she said she was going on:
This person was using the same $5/$25 coupon (well if RA puts it out, do they think only one person is going to use it?)
They fit my description - (not hard to do)
They are also using a RC and trying to tell them how to enter it (well, it's the end of the month - maybe someone else is buying on a RC because it's the last day to make use of it)
They had the same purchases - (I don't believe that)
How do they dare accuse me like that?
So I thought, fine - I'll just finish up and get out of here - I don't plan to use a RA coupon again because I won't be coming back.
But then she tried to total without using my coupons - (1) $1 IP; (2) 3$ IPs ;(2) non-IP RA Qs and an insert Q - all of them completely legit of course. (Renu/Thermacare/Advil/RA Lipbalm freebie)
I reminded her to scan them, but she wouldn't scan the IPs. She said they couldn't take IPs.
I told her that RA policy is that they will accept IPs that are $5 and under. She said "Well you already used the $5 RA IP, you can't use any more."
I said , "The other IPs are less than $5", But they insisted that I could only use one IP in a transaction.
After going in circles for a few minutes, I realized it was hopeless. I told them it really wasn't worth it to me to save a few dollars, if I was going to be treated like I was committing fraud. I said I go out of my way to make sure everything I do is within the policies of the stores I shop at. I was not willing to be accused of fraud and then to give them my money.
So I left the 38.00 of stuff on the counter and walked out.
Never again RA.
I have several prescriptions that I will be moving as soon as possible.
I will be calling that store manager on Monday morning - I've talked to him before, very nice man. If that isn't satisfactory, I'm willing to call the district manager.
What an utterly humiliating experience.
