I'm sure there is some general rule out there about the longevity of foundation in general.......however.......I just think we waste too much and throw away things just because of a printed date........it is not like we are going to eat it....kwim? It may be less effective but I can't imagine that foundation seriously "goes bad".......

Just wanted to say that I totally agree with Tara on this one

We drink skim milk for almost a week after the expiration date. Tastes fine and no one would no the difference.

Obviously, milk isn't the same as foundation but it's the same general concept

You know what? I have makeup from a decade ago. They alwaus say you should ditch mascara after 6 months, etc...but I use old makeup all the time and never ever had a problem. Smell it, look at it...if it looks funky, toss it.

I don't use foundation, but have a ton of it now. My Mom has an endless supply already from wag and ra rebates. I guess gift baskets and yard sales are upcoming! :)

If makeup becomes cakey, runny, changes color etc - throw it away, otherwise use it and have fun. And i always start the meter on makeup when i open it - so if you don't open it - the meter hasn't started.

The "smell it, look at it, is it now green" concept is what I've always used, but then again it's usually been because I didn't want to pay $9 for another bottle!!

I also totally agree with starting the clock when you break the seal - just wasn't sure what to do in this case as I don't really see ANY dates.
