I've been wanting to practice with fondant. Do you make yours or buy it in the ready to use packages? If you have used both, which would you recommend a first timer use? Or are they about the same?

I used Wiltons for the mario cake, but made homemade marshmellow for the Elvis cake. I woud def recommend making your own. It tastes 1000000% better and is alot softer. It was easy to color for lighter colors. The only downside for me was coloring the dark colors. It seemed like it took forever to get the black really black , not gray, but I have a hard time getting buttercream black too, so maybe it's just me.

I'll dig up my marshmellow fondant recipe in just a bit and post it.

Rather than copy the recipe, I am adding a link to the webpage that had it. How to Make and Decorate with Marshmallow Fondant MMF CakeCentral.com Theres also some helpful pics. It is a step by step recipe that works great. I used wilton no color butter and vanilla for my flavorings. LMK how it turns out if you try it. It'll save you a ton of money vs. buying the Wilton's and tastes TONS better.

thanks, i used fondant for the baseballs and i hand painted the baseball players to match there team colors and put their numbers on each one, so each child had their own man to take home as a souveiner

the cake was starting to melt and the baseballs were sliding off, but everyone loved it

This is the Elmo cake I decorated for my BF's son's birthday party. You can see where the little ones just couldn't wait to get a taste, lol.

CHEF Re: Let's see your birthday and special occasion cakes!

This is an Ariel cake based on ASH's. DD wanted an Ariel party as soon as she say ASH's cake! This was for her 3rd bday party last weekend.

After the party was over, she decided she wanted a Hello Kitty cake for her real bday. I told her she only gets one bday cake. LOL (That Ariel was at least 5 hours of work!) So, she got a Hello Kitty brownie yesterday for her actusl bday and was delighted! She ate the eyes first, then the nose and whiskers, and then the bow.... She was so amused, and her big brother, too!
