thank you! I was a little disappointed with her neck, but it wasn't too obvious. If you take out time for baking and prepping (making frosting and filling), the cake took about 15 hours. I'm still having a hard time with the candy clay (rolling and placing) Once I add the color(using gel candy color), the clay is like gum with peanut butter in it. I don't know how to fix that.
The last thing I did was pipe the face on the mermaid. My hands were shaking like leaves....no way to fix it if you mess it up, you know? But, all in all, I was very happy with the way it turned out. Thank you for the compliment. It made my day!

We just celebrated my son's 5th birthday. He is totally into Super Mario, so that was the cake theme he requested. He also decided he was the technical adviser for the cake, letting me know everytime I was working on it what I was doing wrong or right.

In hindsight, I should have done Mario's head ahead of time, like I did with all the other fondant accents. I'm not happy with how the head and face turned out, but the birthday boy was ecstatic about it.

There are 100 coins on the cake, because ds said there had to be! I think my favorite parts were the Goombas and Princess Peach. Mario is made from krispie treats, Peach's shape was formed from aluminum foil. Good news is I got to play with my airbrush again, lol.

Next project will be dd's first birthday. It isn't till mid-December, but I've been trying to decide what I'm doing for a few months already. I'm making her a small cake to have all to herself, but I want the main cake to be spectacular. Good thing is, she isn't old enough to be the technical adviser just yet.

Sorry the pic is so big, I haven't figured out how to make them post smaller.

You all have so much talent (and patience!).

These cakes are beautiful! The closest to a 'special occasion' cake I've ever done was icing a bday cake for my bf.

You all give me something to aspire towards!

I made this spongebob(look to the left) for my son Drew's 4th birthday in Sept. I totally know it looks
realllly homemade, but he (and everyone else looooved it) Plus it cost a total of like
$3. It was delicious and got all eaten.

My daughter's first birthday cake. It was the first time we used rolled buttercream. We had no practice or anything, just a "Hey, let's try this" moment. The cake is frosted with white buttercream frosting, and the the balloons and the name band are made of the rolled buttercream.
