Why is the ham sliced for you at the deli over $8 lb and the Easter ham I just bought $1.49 lb????

I never buy Deli meat unless is prepacked and I have coupons and it's a sale. Some brands are over $8 lb at my store, geesh, Tbone steak is less when it's on sale!!

I just got a precooked ham for $1.49 lb in the meat section. I came home, sliced some, and now I'm eating my sandwich.

So, why is one much more than the other???

I have been thinking about just buying large hams and doing this myself. I am only concerned about wether or not my family will get through it before it goes bad. We arent huge sandwhich eaters but I would prefer to get the meat cheaper.I guess they charge you more since they are paying someone at the deli to do it for you, then using there bags to bag it and they figure you pay for the convenience of it all. I am just guessing there though.

You could always freeze half and save it for later.

i was just coming to post this, yes, i already froze most of it in little packs.

I buy turkeys, hams, etc. like this all the time and freeze into smaller portions. Then I can pull out just enough for a couple of sandwhiches or a casserole as needed.
