Me and my girls made bread the old fashioned way when we were vacationing in the cabin a few weeks ago. We had a lot of fun! No dough enhancer, or any fancy ingredients, we made loaves, braids, and scones! It was fantastic.

Please post your recipe, I would love to give it a try!

    100% Whole Wheat Bread - 4 loafs

    6 cups room temp. water
    1 cup powdered milk
    2 T sugar
    2 T yeast
    2 T dough enhancer
    2 T gluten
    3/4 cup oil
    3/4 cup honey
    2 T salt
    12-13+ cups wheat flour

For the dough enhancer and gluten, you are to use equal parts to the yeast. So if you cut this recipe in half (2 loafs) then cut them all to remain equal.

Take 1/2 cup water (warm though) from the 6 cups of water needed and pour in into a bowl with the sugar and yeast to activate it

Blend the water and powdered milk together and pour into mixer. Add oil, honey, salt, gluten and dough enhancer. After mixed, add the yeast bowl. Then start adding the flour slowly while mixing. You will need atleast 11-12 cups flour but to get the dough to pull away from the sides of the bowl, you may need to add more little by little.

We used half hard red wheat and half hard white wheat. Most breads are better in equal parts. Fresh ground wheat is a must too! (for those who have a grinder!)

After dough looks good, knead for 10 minutes. Then let rise for 30 minutes (in mixer) Remove and shape your loaves into pans. Let rise for another 30 minutes covered under a towel.

Bake at 400 for 15 minutes, then at 350 for 30 minutes. Keep watching though, some ovens may bake faster. Remove from pan, cool for a few minutes on their sides, then lightly coat the top with butter and finish letting cool. I can never get past this step. I butter then slice and eat!

Melli: My Kitchen Aid mixer is doing great right now for being 30 years old! I was wanting a Bosch dough mixer for making breads so I didn't have to wear out my Kitchen Aid! Not to mention, you can't mix a 4 loaf recipe in a Kitchen Aid and I don't want to cut the recipe down.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe! Don't worry about the fresh ground wheat if you buy wheat flour, it still makes some nice bread!

My whole wheat bread is pretty rustic-- just flour, yeast, salt, water and time. I'm a no frills kind of gal. Mine is pretty much like this:
