Default Overage Question?

I have never had any issues with Pubilx just scanning a coupon before. However, tonight when I went in, I tried to use the $1 off J&J grip soap bar and the cashier would not let me use it. She said that since the soap was only .99 then I could not use the $1 coupon. I asked if she could not just adjust the value and she said no because of the fact that it is a manufacturer's coupon.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that anyone is wrong or right, but at every other store that I shop at, which is a lot...

They always adjust the value if something is less than the coupon.

Is this just my store? Or do other stores refuse them as well?

I think it was just that cashier, I have never seen them adjust a cp to the product price. They always just put in the whole amount of the cp.

She is wrong, the coupon should have been accepted and adjusted to .99 each at the very least. Next time call the CS Manager over.
I actaully had my $1 Chinet coupons adjusted to .99 just last week. If they want to go through all that trouble for a penny, be my guest.
The cashiers aren't supposed to give overage, but they can't just refuse coupons.

My dilemma was that this WAS the customer service person on the clock. She was the only one that was there to speak to and she was running a register. It really ticked me off, but I was limited. She is really nice about everything, she just would not do those. I don't want to tick her off or anything. I guess that I will just have to go on a day where my favorite cashier is there.

That was my point. But, according to her, they were not supposed to do it if it was a man. q. they were only supposed to do that for the publix store q's. But, I plan on callling before I go again (to corporate) so that I can get an answer and name of who said it was ok so that I do not have to deal with that again.

I had the same thing happen to me at ShopRite and I was not smart enough to call over the CSM, I spoke to a friend and she told me the same thing they get paid for the face value. Now I know.

That was what I had told her when she said that she could not do it. I made the point that they get the face value PLUS .08 to take it. Why would you turn that down? Especially when she could have just typed in .99 and made an extra penny for her company? I don't know. Depends on the person I guess.

When I was a publix cashier a few years ago, we were not able to adjust coupon values. The managers or the cashiers who were up at customer service could use their override keys to do it if necessary. The store I worked at though, unless it was for free item, there was no beep. Even if that item was not purchased. We had to pay attention to what was being purchased and what the coupons were for to avoid taking the wrong coupons.

Unless the registers changed in the past few weeks, the register should beep only if the running total goes under $0.00

So if you were only buying one item, and that caused a $.01 overage, the register wouldn't take it.

If you bought something else, however, the register shouldn't have a problem. Just make sure the non-couponed (or products that won't give you overage) are rung up first.

I had this problem with the $1 hamburger helpers. They were B1G1F, at $1.99 each, and I had four $1 coupons. It wouldn't take the last coupon because it would have caused a $.02 overage. However, I was also making my weekly fried chicken run, and that wasn't rung up yet. Once it was rung up, the last coupon scanned with no problem.
