Default One coupon per item rule at Publix?

I had a coupon for a free schick rasor (got in the mail do not know why) and a coupon I peeled from a product for a free shave gel if you buy a rasor.
Yesterday they did not allow me to use it together. I have to BUY the rasor (with no coupons) to use the coupon for gel.
    Is it new policy now?

It's not a rule per se, but it is possible that new programming on the registers is causing the second coupon to beep if you had already used the free coupon on the razor and the second one attached to the razor as well due to the coding on the coupon. In that case it can be a YMMV as to whether the management will allow a manual processing of the second coupon so that you may use both.

So, you can not buy things with coupons?

Yes, you can still use coupons. The question was if you are allowed to "piggyback" coupons on two products. The op had a coupon for a free razor, then another for a free shave gel when you buy the razor. In this case she was not allowed to use the second coupon because she had already used a coupon on the razor.

I've had this discussion with a couple managers at Publix. I always get the "Well, we're not supposed to do it, but we will just this once."

I've always pointed out that nowhere on the coupon in question does it say you have to pay full price for product x to either get the $ off or a free product y. I still have no idea why they'd complain at all since they're making money off each manuf. coupon used.

    HCW doesn't allow coding discussions.

But to me it would depend on what the coding was on the X Free when you Buy Y.

She did not scan the coupon so nothing beeped. She scrutinized every coupon I had (all 4 of them) and said I can not use it together.

It just seems inconsistent to me that they allow 2 coupons for 2 items in a BOGO (we are true BOGO) where second item is free and I am still allowed to use some $ off it.

I tried to call the store and ask a store manager to clarify but he was not in today, I will try tomorrow.

If it is a new rule a set of coupons like that will be redeemed at Walmart not Publix, though I really do not like shopping there.

So, it was a decision or judgment call of one person that believes you cannot use a coupon because of their notion of justice, equality and fairness in that there is no such thing as a free and if you try it with them you must be a thief because only thieves get things for free, even if the store get face value plus for the purchase?

I've had some cashiers try to tell me the same thing (without even scanning the coupon). NO WHERE does it say you have to pay full price for the product you must buy to receive free. Even with a b1g1 and a $/1 (off the b1 product).

Say you have buy 1 razor, get a shave gel free. and a $1 off razor coupon. You should be able to use both. It doesn't matter what you buy the razor with, as long as it's legal tender (cash, card, check, coupon, etc).

Sounds to me like you just got a bad or not-properly-trained cashier. There's one of those at my publix too, and I'll just use a different cashier when she's there. She reads through EVERY SINGLE coupon's fine print! Yet can never find a problem with my coupons (because I don't try to 'cheat'). I don't know why she does it... she must have the longest checkout time of all the cashiers there. sorry, rant over.

I agree, if she never even scanned it I would have asked for a manager right then and there or ,my favorite past time, I would have asked them to void order and taken everything to Customer Service desk. Usually when I ask them to void and advise I'll take to counter they get someone ASAP.

I don't mind being wrong IF you give me an explanation to work with not the uniformed response of "you can't use this because it would make x free".

Some cashiers just don't know better and haven't watched that show and HONESTLY believe they will get fired for giving you a deal. At my favorite Publix they constantly call on managers/supervisors when I show up with lots of coupons and after everything's been settled congratulate me on a great shop and ask for pointers.
