I told him not only would he be reimbursed for the coupon but the store also gets .08 for every cpn. redeemed. He said they don't get the .08, the clearinghouse does. Anyone know whether that is true or not?

    He needs coupon training.

All you have to do is read the coupon (pick a coupon, any coupon) to see right in black and white "Retailer: For payment of face value, plus $.08 handling, send to..."

The retailer pays the clearinghouse, yes. But they negotiate that deal on their own. They pay them to do the job of sorting the q's for reimbursement.

    So.
The store gets paid in their checks and balances by their corporate office (this will vary by retailer... exactly how it is handled)
The retailer gets paid face value plus handling from the manufacturer.
The clearinghouse gets paid a negotiated amount by the retailer.

The manufacturer gets paid in brand loyalty by the consumer.

The $.08 goes to the retailer. Perhaps he hasn't "seen" those eight cents spelled out, because reimbursement is probably handled on a corporate level, but no, he's wrong.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm back to square one. I called S.C. Johnson yesterday evening cause I had a feeling the DM would not interpret the email correctly and wanted them to go more indepth about the word "pays". I was on the phone with one lady and she kept telling me that a coupon is NOT like cash, foodstamps, credit card, etc. but a "SALE" and IS NOT a form of payment. Where do these ignorant people come from? She had me steaming mad. She finally put another lady on the line and of course she sided with the first lady. She said she could send me some coupons. I said I DON'T WANT ANY COUPONS I JUST WANT TO GET THIS CLEARED UP. I gave her the name and # of the DM but I'm sure she's gonna side with him too. I tried calling the regional manager but he had already left so I'm gonna try again this morning.

A Publix manager told me that her store gets a "nice check" at the end of the year from all of those 8 cent coupon fees, so I DO think that they see this $$ on a store level.

I had the same thing happen in ga. There was a publix bogo Q and I had a BOGO MFQ. So both should be free.... wrong SM said I have to buy 1 to get 3. He said he called higher ups and they all agreed with him. Said how would publix be in business if this happened. Then stated that this is abuse and would not be fair to MF. I will no longer shop that store. I have not had this issue from other stores .

What part of GA do you live in? If you're in an area where your BOGO items ring up half price, then a bogo sale with a bogo q does not actually equal two free for us.

Since our items ring up half price, our BOGO mq "free" price should be input as whatever the item rings up, which is half of the normal cost. So technically, the SM is right if you're buying four. If you're buying two, then you'd pay 1/4 the cost of one for two items.

    It looks like this:

Let's say Kraft Cheese is bogo $3.00. If you are in an area where your bogos ring up half price:

    Kraft Cheese $1.50
    Kraft Cheese $1.50
-BOGO mq (cost of free = $1.50)
=$1.50 oop. (or half the cost of one; 1/4 the cost of two)

    If you buy four:
    Kraft cheese $1.50
    Kraft cheese $1.50
    Kraft cheese $1.50
    Kraft cheese $1.50
-BOGO mq (free item = $1.50)
-BOGO mq (free item - $1.50)
=$3.00 for four, or the price of one regular priced item (so yes, buy one get three free...sort of. ;) )

    HTH!!!

I work for a small independent grocery store. We send our coupons to the warehouse who we buy our groceries from, they send them to the clearinghouse. We get a check for the amount of the coupons plus the handling fee. As a pp said the mgr probably doesnt realize they get the .08 because he doesnt see it but it makes him look ignorant to make a statement like that when he is not sure.
Coupon clippin', sweet tea sippin', stockpile growin', you won't catch me lawn mowin, I'm the only Queen Bee of this hive!

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! I stopped at a different Publix yesterday and the cashier didn't know if I could use 2 cpns. on 2 items. She said they had just got a letter from corp. about the policy that they are making. She called the manager over and he confirmed I could use a cpn. on each item but this was NOT a b1g1f sale. I asked him about the letter from corp. and he said on b1g1f sales we will have to buy 4 items to use a b1g1f cpn. If this is true they are going to lose alot of customers. I told him and the cashier they need to go to some cpn. classes. I think the main problem is that the people that work at Publix are so high and mighty that they have never had to use cpns. to make ends meet.

As a Publix employee, I can assure you that we do use coupons.
Just like everyone else, we have to deal with our cashiers and managers
who don't understand coupons. This biggest problem is that is not a
hard copy corporate policy. Everything gets lost in translation--(Limit one
coupon per purchase: Limit one coupon per deal: Limit one deal per customer, Do not double). But the biggest problem is the abusers of coupons who do not buy the correct size, flavor, quantity or brand that is stated on the coupon. And lets not even talk about the fraudulent coupons on the internet. This makes cashiers hard on all coupon users.
