Try the deli case or gourmet cheese case
Can someone enlighten me as to where I can find this item in the store?
Try the deli case or gourmet cheese case
A great day begins with a great attitude!
I am going to put in my 2 cents here as we are an italian household and we eat this every Sunday for brunch. If you get it in the deli case you will not be able to inspect the marbeling. Through trial and error I have discovered that the already packaged in the imported cheese section is more lean. We absolutly ADORE Boarshead BUT I will tell you that it tends to be on the fatty side. Some people like it that way but we do not. We like ours to basically melt in our mouths to savor the flavor with minimal chewing. This of course is my own personal opinion because like I said some people do not like the leaner cut. :0) I hope this helps
I my local Publix stores, there is pre-packaged prosciutto in the deli case that also contains pre-packaged sliced deli meat and cheeses. The brand is Abraham, and the package is about 3.5 ounces. It's pretty good!
Recipe from Readers Digest Cookbook:
Melon and Ham Gondolas
For 6:
1/2 Large ripe honeydew melon
6 wafer thin slices smoked ham
juice of 1 lemon
Chill the melon thoroughly. Cut it into 6 long slices, scoop out the seeds, and cut the skin away. Place 1 piece of melon on each slice of ham and wrap the ham neatly around the melon. Sprinkle the fruit with lemon juice and pepper.
Serve each of the melon and ham gondolas garnished with a wedge of lemon.
In the picture with the recipe, it looks delicious.
In a pinch, you can sub bacon.
Thanks for everyones input..I did find the prosciutto in the imported cheese area. The dish turned out great. I have 2 slices left...which I am going to use on scallops...well attempt to. This stuff is fairly expensive to toss out.
The benefit to buying out of the deli case is that you can get just what you need. I love prosciutto and buy it about once a month as a treat. The pre-sliced packages are somewhere in the neighborhood of $5-8 and always contain more than I need. At the deli counter, I can ask for 1/5 lb. sliced as thin as possible and it really goes a long way. At $13.69/lb., this comes out to less than $3 for what I need - plus, on more than one occasion, the deli counter employees overcut, weighed out what I asked for, and tossed the extra on for free.
My simple favorite - Fresh basil, asiago, and very thinly sliced prosciutto on sliced baguette with balsamic vinegar.
