Default Re: Newbie Questions for Publix Shoppers

How does Publix handle overages? Is it a YMMV thing?
On BOGO (or 1/2 off in my store) this week:

*yoplait yogurt asst varieties 4 pk, 4 oz cup save up to 2.50
That should make them $1.25 each? I have IPs for $1.50 off. Should I anticipate any problems? I will be buying several other things in this visit.

my limited experience is that the overage simply gets applied to the rest of the order. Most of my overages have been 25cents or less but I have never had a problem. HTH

I guess it depends. My Publix won't let me use a coupon that exceeds the price of the product :hectic1: I had $3 off Covergirl for a $2.79 item and the head cashier walked over and gave me this big lecture on how what I was doing was wrong .... She did adjust the coupon but said she won't allow the cashiers to do this ever .
By the way I did have a bunch of other stuff that I bought too so it wasn't the only item I bought.

It depends , some cashiers will just scan it and others will refuse.

The correct procedure is for the cashier to accept the mfr, but adjust the coupon down so as to not exceed the purchase price. You should speak with your CS Manager, the head cashier needs to be informed, and it shouldn't be a problem for any cashier to do this.

It is common for cashiers to just let coupons go through for the full face value, however, but it is YMMV and not to be expected.

Hello ladies!

Well. I am COMPLETELY new at this. I am getting married this July. Not only have I never been the shopper of the family before, but I also want to master this coupon-using process as well.

My fiance actually works at Publix, so that is where I will be doing most of my shopping.

All of your tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

This is found in the Yellow Advantage Buy flyer at the front of the store in the turnstyle. This is where they keep the weekly ads , also.

This is exactly what happened. I had a lot of items and a lot of coupons and she just scanned them all through. Apparently the overage was absorbed by other things.

Thanks for the input!

I have a question regarding Publix accepting the other grocery stores coupons in my area. Some fellow couponers in my area use the $5 off $30 from Winn Dixie expired, however my Publix refused to take mine the other day. Is this a store by store set policy?

Yes. Each store gets to determine what other chains they consider to be competitors. However, I'm surprised your store won't take Winn Dixie since it's a regular grocery store. Did this come from the manager or a cashier?
