BOGO rebate???

Has anyone ever heard that Publix gets some sort of a "rebate" from the manufacturer on a BOGO deal if they sell all the product?

Yes they do, that's why the same stuff rotates every couple of weeks. Some mfg's give them $$$ and some don't. I heard this a couple weeks ago. Good for us and Publix and probably all grocery stores. It's a drop in the bucket for the mfg's and is part of their advertising budget.

Stores are reimbursed on the value of items that are on sale. It's another form of marketing. Publix (and other stores) doesn't randomly offer items up for sale. So if GM has Cheerios bogo at $3.99 and you pay $2 for a box, GM reimburses Publix a percentage of the $2 off that you saved. (the last numbers I heard was approximately 75% of value, so you saved $2 on your cereal, GM reimburses Publix $1.50)

Sometimes I wonder how the manufacturer can stay afloat on some of the products. BOGOs, MQs, Store Qs....sometimes all intersecting at one time. But then I remember we extreme couponers are not the norm. Today, the woman in front of me in line was telling me how much she saves on the BOGO sales at Publix. I told her she could double that savings if she also couponed. She smiled as if to tell me that coupons weren't worth her time. I remember thinking that way too. Boy was I wrong.

And almost everytime - the BOGO sales, mfg coupons, and store coupons are all planned ahead of time to draw in more sales. Extreme couponers take advantage of it and make out like bandits. Regular shoppers make out well, but that is where the mfg makes the money.
