| Re: My great shopping trip at Publix!- Post your brags here OK... This is probably a little underwhelming in the face of the previous brags, but it was my first try at this with half a dozen printed Qs and some BOGOs. Oh - and no processed foods - I just don't do 'em. And no cats for the amazing cat food deal.
Anyway - I'd say about 60% to 70% of what I bought had some kindof saving attached, but I did do a normal grocery run with produce and chicken and I bought a couple of the reusable shopping bags...
Still... I was very excited with an OOP of $71.30 and $33.90 in savings.
Well see if I do better next time.

$8.05 (9) bags SteamFresh vegetables/rice .89 cents & .90 ea
$3.39 Wheat Thins Vermont Cheddar
$0.00 Wheat Thins Vermont Cheddar
---------------------------------------------- $11.44

Extra savings tip: If Publix doesnt adjust your 2nd coupon for the Kraft dressing, go to Walmart and buy them for $1.58 minus the q and pay .08 cents per bottle! I did that today. I was about to pay .62 cents a bottle...NOT! lol |

I was going to post this question earlier..So to clarify If i have a coupon for B!G! and the product is on sale b1g1, do I use 1 q on 2 boxes? And can someone explain this so if I have to defend myself to the cashier I can. Thanks |

This is the essay I wrote for a contest HCW had last year. Perhaps it will help explain.... |

The Beauty of BOGO
Matching a buy-one-get-one-free (BOGO) coupon with a buy-one-get-one-free sale can be a wonderful thing in the coupon world. Two items are scanned. The store sale deducts the price of one item, and the manufacturer’s coupon deducts the price of the other. The customer is left paying sales tax, where applicable.
This isn’t a loop hole, a register glitch, or coupon fraud. Both the store and the manufacturer get exactly what they were expecting when they designed their promotions. For example, consider the case of a $4 bottle of shampoo.
The store sale is an offer from the store that if the customer takes home two bottles of shampoo, the store will waive the price of one bottle. The store expects to receive payment of $4 in some form for this transaction. In the BOGO/BOGO scenario, the store is receiving its payment in the form of a manufacturer’s coupon which will be worth $4, plus a handling fee, upon redemption. The store has received its expected payment and has achieved its promotional goals of a) bringing the customer into the store and b) increasing the number of bottles of shampoo sold.
The manufacturer's coupon is an offer from the manufacturer that if the customer takes home two bottles of shampoo, the manufacturer will give the store the cost of one bottle ($4) when the store sends in the coupon for redemption. In the BOGO/BOGO scenario, this is exactly what happens. The manufacturer has not lost any additional revenue. The manufacturer will pay the same amount for that coupon whether the coupon is redeemed by the customer during the BOGO sale or in the following week. The manufacturer has achieved its promotional goals of a) enticing the customer to buy the shampoo and b) increasing the number of bottles of shampoo sold.
For the store, its promotional success and bottomline are the same, regardless of whether the customer uses a BOGO coupon. For the manufacturer, its promotional success and bottomline are the same, regardless of whether the customer waits for a BOGO sale. For the savvy customer, the BOGO/BOGO combination is the best of both worlds.
Unfortunately, this lovely deal can sometimes be thwarted by the way in which the register is programmed. The case for BOGO/BOGO is most easily made when the register lists each item at full price then deducts the price once for every two bottles. For the shampoo, this would mean listing each bottle at $4 then deducting $4.
At some stores, the register will list the first item at full price and the second item for $0. While this should still be a valid BOGO/BOGO scenario, some store personnel will insist that the value of the second item is $0 so the value of the manufacturer’s coupon can not be more than that. If the store personnel will not assent, then the best value is to purchase four items. Two items will be listed at regular price and two at $0. The manufacturer’s coupon will apply to the purchase of the two items listed at regular price. This will leave the customer with four items for a total of the regular price of one, which averages to 25% of the regular price for each item. For the shampoo example, the bottles will be listed as $4, $0, $4, and $0. The manufacturer’s coupon will be assigned a value of $4 based on the purchase of the first and third bottles. The result is four bottles for $4 total, or $1 per bottle.
Unfortunately, some stores advertise a sale as buy-one-get-one-free, but the registers are programmed to list each item as 50% of the regular price. In this case, the coupon is only worth the listed price (50% of the regular price of the item). The customer will get two items for a total of 50% of the regular price of one item, which averages to 25% of the regular price for each item. Each bottle of shampoo, for example, would be listed as $2 so the manufacturer’s coupon would be worth $2. The customer would get two bottles of shampoo with the BOGO coupon for $2 total. Instead of two free products, the customer would pay $1 per bottle.
While not quite as valuable as a coupon for a free item with no additional purchase requirements, a buy-one-get-one-free coupon can still be quite powerful. The shrewd customer will save at least 75%, if not 100%, off regular prices by coupling the coupon with a buy-one-get-one-free sale. Permission to repost elsewhere denied. | |
