I used to dislike Publix, until I saw how much people were actually saving. Now, I'm saving and stockpiling bigtime! This week I spent appx. $53 and saved appx. $122! The cashier was so excited for me. I told my daughter that I had found my Publix cashier. Most are so rude when you use coupons. Not her. She loved watching the amount go down. She said, "Wow! Pretty soon, we might be paying you totake this stuff home." Then, she told the lady behind me, what I had saved. Needless to say, that lady wasn't impressed. Whatever. I'm happy.

I'm not sure how most people count savings, but here's my totals:

After ringing up all groceries the total came to $98.xx, then after giving coupons it came down to $53.xx. so it was a savings of 44.69 in just coupons. Receipt also states an extra $44.52 in Store coupons and Advertised Special Savings for a grand total of $89.21 in savings.

Do you count just the coupons or the extra ad savings as well? Technically I got $143.16 in groceries for $54.xx, but I would say that I actually "saved" only $44.69 because I never would have bought the items at full price anyway, but I would still have bought them at the advertised savings. Having coupons "saved" me from paying an extra $44.69, but I would have got the advertised savings anyway. Hope that makes sense, and just trying to see how others compute their savings.

Default Publix Coupon Ethics Question

Sorry about the subject change, but I didn't know where else to ask this question.

In the recent Food Pyramid coupon book there were store coupons for $2.00 off ANY Back to Nature Nuts and Trail Mixes (exp 9/30). There was no size specified on the coupon.
A week or two ago I found a display in the Greenwise section with $.69 bags of Back to Nature nut mixes. I got the bright idea to buy three of these bags for every $2.00 coupon I had. I went to a few stores and got a handful at each store. (There are 3 Publix stores on one road in my town). At the last store the cashier was very rude about it and called the mgr over. The manager okayd the transaction and said as long as I bought three nut packages at $.69 for each $2.00/q that was okay. The cashier continued to be very rude after the mgr left and said under her breath, "That's not fair."

Could someone please tell me if what I did was un-ethical according to Publix policy and general couponing ethics?

Thanks so much for your response.

The cashier should not have been rude to you. You didn't do anything wrong. You bought an appropriate product. The coupon did not specify a size. It did not have any of the confusing wording like, "may not exceed purchase price". It should have been accepted for the single serving packages. However, the manager could have insisted you have one coupon per package and that each coupon be adjusted down to $0.69. He chose to give you the overage on the coupons as long as you applied the overage to more packages of the same. Once the manager made a decision on how he wanted to accept a PUBLIX coupon, the cashier should have had nothing else to say about it.

Thanks so much for your answer. I've been feeling so bad and guilty about it.

Last night I was at a friend's house who tried to stack a mftcr coupon with a store coupon on milk at the same Publix that the cashier was rude to me at and a different cashier wouldn't let her stack the coupons. My friend didn't call a mgr over, but just accepted that the cashier wouldn't let her do it. I don't think I'll be visiting that particular Publix anymore after two incidences with cashiers that don't seem to be coupon-friendly.

HAPPY DANCE Re: My great shopping trip at Publix!- Post your brags here

I went to Publix last night trying to get the grocery shopping done early this week (usually go on Sunday) and I wanted to get the Wanchai Ferry dinners - I LOVE THESE.... I forgot and got distracted by one of the BOGO deals and remembered at the last minute before checking out - I walked around the corner and low and behold there was the clearance shelf. They had the dinners on the shelf marked down to $2.39 each which was a good price for these dinners and I had $1.00 off coupons about to expire. I was sooooooo excited - I took what they had left and did the happy dance all the way to the car. My hubby thought I was KRAZY when I told him why I was soooooo happy.

1 carton of eggs 1.29 - FLIP = .29
1 ice cream 2.29 - FLIP = 1.29
Apples - FLIP = 3.00
Lenders Bagels B1G1 - .75 = 1.24

My very first time at "stacking" last Wednesday!
12 Toaster Strudels
12 Pillsbury Cake Mix
6 Green Giant frozen veggies
12 Chex Mix
3 Publix Ice Creams
and 3 packs of crackers I found at the candy spot next to the register 'cause I messed up and went over!!!! The reason I went over is cause I remembered my senior discount!
Spent a whopping $.19!
Boy, this is really fun!-My total coupon savings was $100.49 Woohoo!
And the cashiers were gathered around cheering me on as the total went down, down, down.
