i heard the same thing today about the penny item except my manager said he thought it was going to be on wed only.
I did my weekly shopping today in my usual store in Roswell, GA (Rucker Rd and Crabapple). One of the cashiers with whom I am friendly told me that as of the first of the year that the penny item day was changing to Thursday, not Sunday. I then spoke with the store manager who confirmed this. He said that they kept running out of stock on the penny item and had to keep substituting other items. So as of the first, it would be a one day deal, only on Thursday.

I hope my store DOES do this b/c Sun/Mon aren't good days for me to make the trip. Thanks for the heads up!

I'd like this too! Stock is usually better on a Thursday, and my five-year-old goes to Mother's Morning Out that day, so I'd only have one child with me!

I guess my only issue is the Penny Item Q itself, as that would mean it would come out with the flyer in the Wednesday paper. Who WANTS to buy a Wednesday paper, and my stores are sticklers about having to have the Q in order to get the deal.
My stores just ask all willy nilly if you want the penny item, no coupon required. If they started across the board making the coupon mandatory than maybe stock would not be a problem. Maybe only offer the penny item on Sundays?? I think this is just another silly idea from the " I don't use this stuff corporate heads" who don't get out in the thick of it. I am voting for this STINKS!
I keep hearing from one of my managers that the penny item is going to be gone altogether that it costs publix a lot of money every year. I don't like the one day only deal...what if it is a really good penny item!!

Yea...if I have to buy the Wed or Thurs paper to get the penny item coupon,it won't be worth it for me. One of my nearby Publix requires the coupon....the other usually doesn't (depends on the cashier)....so maybe I'll just start hitting up the Publix (and cashiers) who don't require the coupon.
