When in doubt, I usually take the coupon to the Customer Service Desk along with the questionable product and ask if it's a match. It's a lot easier than trying to be a detective or contacting the manufacturer.

Yes, I commented earlier in the thread that I feel that this is YMMV at the store level at this point. I contacted the mfr also because I want to feel comfortable that it is a proper use of the coupon when I get to the store.
Since I haven't heard back yet, I would also advise checking in with the CS Manager of your store to see if they find it acceptable. Since it is a store coupon, then the decision can be made on the store level since there is not a clear cut answer.

Ya know, it may be easier, but more likely to be incorrect. If your store allows it, have fun. I know lots of people did this deal last year without issue, but even then I wasn't certain it was what HF intended. (I never found the stuff, so I never did this last time around.) I just like to know without a doubt that I'm doing things "the right way" all the time, KWIM?

Answer was... No. Pepperoni is not considered a smoked sausage product. She said that would be for items that actually have sausage on the wrapper like refrigerated links, rolls, summer sausage on the shelf, etc, but definitely not pepperoni. Feel free to give them a call yourself. Sometimes they give different answers but she didn't hesitate at all. I won't be using them.

It's a Publix coupon, so wouldn't they be the best arbitor? Even if it's a mfg coupon, I view it is as a coupon transaction between me and Publix. If it's unclear enough for me to question it and I ask the other party of my transaction (Publix) and they say yes, I feel I've done my part to validate it's proper coupon use. I realize they may make mistakes or not even care to evaluate it that carefully after I ask if it's a match...that's on them as that is clearly their responsibility to the manufacturer.

ETA: I called the number and the woman said that she didn't see why it wasn't a match but to be sure, ask my grocer.

I think the best answer here is YMMV according to management discretion on the store level, and folks must make up their own mind as to their comfort level using the coupon at that point, if it's approved.

As to the situation where it is a mfr coupon, the proper use is decided by the mfr. There are many times where I have see improper use that is condoned by managers trying to accomodate the customer.

I figured that would happen. It seems no matter what you ask, someone else can ask and get the opposite answer!

Called Publix corp. Rep had to talk to someone else. Both agreed that if HF says it's not a smoked sausage product, it shouldn't be used, especially if "smoked sausage" is not on the product. BUT, he said some stores will probably take it anyway so go ahead and try.

I'll seriously quit posting about this coupon now. I'm not even planning to try after all that though!

No sign of these at my Publix anyway. They have the Hormel pepperoni and the HF Sausage but no HF Pepperoni.
