Default Publix going to stop overage??

I was at my local publix last night just getting a few things, didn't have any major coupons just progresso and pillsbory and picking up some more free tylenol. The cashier asked me if I had any overage coupons, I told her no. She mentioned that people were using the 4.00 off coupon and getting paid, and that they just had a big meeting about coupons and how they can get in trouble with doing that. I mentioned to her that I have used alot of those coupons there and that she was the only cashier that we havent checked out with in the past two weeks. She said well that person is probably being watched. I guess she missed the comment I said she was the only one I hadn't. She wasn't being mean or nasty, she actually was intrigued by the coupons and saying how she needs to get into the coupon stuff and even the guy in front of me had IP's.

I just thought this was odd... My wife and I have only been doing this for several weeks but we have had alot of half to full cartfuls where we only paid less than a dollar ( sometimes throwing up a pack of gum just to get us back positive) and never had any issues. The manager had to come over so she could actually run through the tylenol coupons since it was .01 overage.

She said they have to mark coupons down to the price of the item on her computer. I asked her if they wrote all those down on the coupons before they sent them out, because otherwise when you send lets say that 4.00 off one out, they will reimburse the 4.00 plus the 8cents or whatever handling and she said yes you are correct.

So how is that right? It's as if Publix would be stealing from me because now they are getting $4.00 for the product which they sell for 1.39???

I agree, however if I'm correct Publix "TECHNICALLY" does not accept overage. However that being said my store DOES and our managers will even overide the system- even if you have like $16 of overage because they will get that money back.... but I have certainly had that problem other places -especially Walmart & Target. And I do complain to them telling them that it's not really fair since they WILL get the full coupon price back and essentially are making money on my coupon, but since technically it is usually their policy to not accept overage (although many people do) there's not much I say about it. It's kind of a catch 22 & many times just depends on your cashier. I have actually learned who a lot of our Publix cashiers & managers are, and only shop there with those cashiers!

I understand the frustration with Publix changing their policy every other store and sometimes every other manager. My personal philosophy is to fly under the radar and not let it be some huge amount of overage on every transaction. I am known by my Publix as the "coupon lady" and they know I get good deals but I don't ever give anyone a reason to start questioning what I do and how many times I do it. Again this is my personal view on things and I understand that everyone has their own way of doing things. I find it easier to deal with cashiers and managers this way - less hassle and still getting awesome deals.

The denied overage at walmart, target and other stores gets my gander up - but I had rather have the q being adjusted down instead of denied.
    I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper ,,,offline,,,,,alot!

It's the $4.00 off any knox coupon. Not sure if it is still available. I know what you mean by the not too much overage, most of the time it has never even been brought up and we have walked into publix on several occasions with 6 of those coupons and used them all at once with several other overages and not even a question, but I guess according to this cashier she said they can get in super big trouble for taking them and giving overage.

Don't even get me started on targets policy about reducing it down. They still get paid the full face value which I dont understand, but at least target says it on their coupon policy. I don't see any policy that says it for publix or did I not ready correctly.

This is really interesting....especially since I read on another site yesterday that Publix just sent out a corporate memo indicating that ALL overage was to be given to customers. This definitely still seems to be a YMMV situation.

LOL! ;) I wish I had it myself. The person who shared about the memo lives in Alabama and she indicated she received this info from her CSM.

    ...here we go again....

This goes around about once every few months. Each store manager makes its own policy and I'll worry when my store manager comes to me and tells me they are changing policies. (Since I have befriended him and he has my cell number, he'd probably call me to tell me! LOL!!)
