I don't feel it's wrong at all. They know what is on sale, if they didn't order enough, then that's the fault of the store. That's the whole point of a raincheck. :)

I just tossed a couple from May that I never ended up filling because I'd feel like a jerk using them four months later.

I don't have any defining answer as to why it seems wrong to me though.
If I had to guess, I'd say it probably has something to do with you thinking that the store intends you to buy the item only with the coupons and promotions that were available at that time, and that waiting till another coupon comes available seems like cheating to you.

    Close enough?

I suspect some folks feel it's wrong to "shop" RC potential. For example, I eat and like Yo-Plus. It goes on BOGO sale making it 25 cents after coupons every few months. I would love to stockpile it at that price but I have limited freezer space. So when it is on sale and out of stock, I get a RC even when I have no need for or intention to buy it at that time....allowing me to buy it at the sale price regularly. I certainly can see how some view this as wrong.....but I don't. I'm playing by Publix's rules and using the RC as just another NED (no expiration date) "coupon" of sorts. Was this what Publix had in mind when they came up with RCs? I'm guessing not but I have no moral issues with using the RC to it's full savings potential within the parameters (such as NED) set by Publix.

My newest rainchecks do say "please use within 30 days" which isn't exactly the same as an expiration date.

What if the product you have a RC for is not in stock again when you go back? I don't see why I should have to try to check again within 30 days. Seems to me that whether I go back on the 15th or the 30th day, they are obligated to write me another RC if they're going to insist that my original RC has an expiration date.

I'm not sure if my RC for All detergent has an expiration date, but I was there the other day and noticed that they only had 1 or 2 bottles of the type I would buy--the rest were high efficiency. Considering I want at least 4 bottles, I don't consider the stock to be sufficient enough to use my RC.
