Default How do I legally justify/explaining using a BOGO MFQ for a BOGO item?

Ok I got 8 of these q's for B1G1 Free Wheat Thins. I know I can only use 1 q per transaction as it states on the coupon.

Now since I did my groceries already all I need is to get these Wheat Thins. I add a pack of gum or something real cheap.

Get 2 boxes of BOGO Wheat thins $3.39

I hand over the MFQ and the cashier takes off $3.39 & I get both free. The part Ihave a hard time with is the cashiers that freak out when its free. She told me " OMG did I do something wrong? It took the whole amount off now you only pay for gum??"

I explained to her that the Manufacturer pays Publix $3.39 and I get a free box. So both come out free for me but they are getting paid by the manufacturer.

What other explanation can I give so they understand I'm not like stealing it? She said "ooooh I get it" but still looked confused I swear lol.She wanted to know if it was ok for me to use a BOGO coupon with an item that is already BOGO at their store.

I find it MUCH eaiser to "hide" the BOGO Q's in a little larger order. YK, some milk, or produce (which I buy more than 1x/week anyhow)

But if you do need to explain, I'd say the Manuf Q is for the 1st box, and Publix buys the 2nd. That's it.

That's how I usually do it too. I would get like 4 or 6 boxes mixed in with liek 6 -8 other items that way the total is not in cents only lol. But this certain coupon only allows you to use 1 cpn per transaction :( and I have 8 of these! lol Now I have 2 MFQ left so two more transactions this week and since the sale ends 4/11/09 that is perfect.

I just got back from a different Publix and the cashier had the same issue. Confused look and she called a manager. The manager giggled and told her " She gets both boxes Free thats how you are suppose to use BOGO coupons combined with a BOGO sale! " She told the cashier " Girl , you need to learn how to use coupons!" The cashier felt so silly and started saying " I just thought she should have gotten a third box. Then I told her " I think you just wanted me to pay for at least 1 box lol" She said noooo I thought I owed you a third box lol... I told her I would gladly take the third box if it was free too LOL. The cashier ,the manager and myself were all laughing at by this time !

Sooo even though this Publix is 10 miles from my house it seems like the Manager totally understands how you can use these coupons. So I might visit this one more often :)

It's sooooo simple but so many people DON'T get it .
Buy 1 get1 free, MFQ pays for 1 box. The second box is already FREE from Publix :P

If they question it I say that the free one is due to a store promotion, like a store coupon, and the mfr coupon pays for the one I am being charged for. This is no different than the items being half price like in the Georgia market.

I go with something like... This coupon says that if I take home two boxes, the manufacturer is willing to pay for one as long as I give you this coupon. Your sale says that as long as you're getting paid for one, which you are through this coupon, that you'll pay for the other.

I usually have other things in my order as well when I use BOGO Q's so they usually slip by without being noticed. The suggestions given are pretty good, I'd go with one of those.

I agree about combining them with other stuff... the only problem we ever had (not at our normal store) was when we went in to just use some bogo's... the manager said no. (sighing)... We usually go to publix with 10/50 catalina's from winn dixie. We save all our free items to help make the total after the bogo, mm, etc deals and that allows us around 15.00 of overage to use on whatever we need. We then never try to push the zero mark and will spend a few extra dollars... zero tends to freak cashiers out. It says on the average that we saved around 100 dollars and our oop is 3-5 dollars. We have a winn dixie a couple blocks away and my wife's card always pops 10/50's... she usually goes in and gets a free 20 oz coke with a free reese's candy bar and walks out with the catalina... I also scour the lot and carts and pick up a couple more a week... hey it's like finding ten dollar bills.

This is the wrong thing to do. Any customers who are intentionally trying to hide something from cashiers won't get anything but a bad look from managers. I have seen people who try and do that and it never works good.

I agree if what the customer is trying to hide is something wrong or unethical. danivdp was not suggesting anything of the sort. BOGO coupon + BOGO sale is a perfectly legitimate transaction. If adding a few more items to the order makes the transaction go more smoothly, then that's a reasonable thing to do.

But I just kept explaining to everyone that told me no that it was ligit and the Manufactor is going to reimburse Publix, etc I think they just got sick of me while I was on hold w/corporate and they gave in:smile77: I don't care how I get them free as long as they are both free!!!(and it's legal)
