Default Re: What makes good filler at Publix?

I know it's much easier to not have to have a supervisor come over but when I have a bunch of coupons and know my coupon count isn't going to jive, I just tell the cashier: since I'm using so many Publix Q's in combination with MFR Q's, the register is eventually going to beep and ask you to call a supervisor.

Once the supervisor enters their code once, the rest of the coupons will go thru without a problem. I then explain it to the supervisor as they are coming up.

I had a newer cashier Saturday with a newer supervisor and it was a hoot. He came over and I explained the situation and he entered his code. He then asked me what else he needed to do. I told him probably nothing but then the cashier tried giving me some of my coupons back 'cause they wouldn't go thru. I told her to try them they should work fine now. They both just stared at the register when the rest of the coupons went thru without a hitch! The supervisor said, well I'll be, I learned something new today!

PS: What a great idea, Cathy - I can't wait to try the single grapes. I wonder how much the plastic bags weigh. Hmmmm, I'm heading to Publix tomorrow. Will definitely do it if my fav' cashier is working!!!!

Hey, it was a joke! Someone mentioned that in the other thread, and I said I would just about die of embarassment.

Default Re: What makes good filler at Publix?

I love to use fillers that I will actually use in a healthy way - at first I used to grab some candy at the cash register or just something, but my son has a serious sugar high/low problem and really became a bit unruly and hard to manage with all the candy in the home - so I have been looking for other fillers for the last 2 months or so.

At CVS I've started getting one or two single rolls of TP each time I shop - I haven't checked if Publix carries them as well - but will try to remember the next time. I really like the fruit idea [someone mentioned buying indidual tomatoes or peppers somewhere/somewhen here] - so fruit works well for me. And we are trying to eat healthier and if there is more variety to choose from, it actually gets eaten before it turns to mush in the fruit bowl. While I wouldn't want to push my luck with a single grape - I have no problem to take a prepackaged bundle and split it into 2 or 3 individual bags. Another thing from the produce section are bundles of green and regular single onions, baking or sweet potatoes, a cucumber or pepper for a salad etc.

Another thing that would work well is single yoghurts - as you are usually required to buy 4 or 6 [or more] to make a coupon work, that frees all but one of them to be used as extra attachments for the Publix coupons.

Individual cheese snacks [ala Target] would also work well, if they carry them...

I get the "Cup o' Noodles" (like Ramen, but in the styrofoam cup) most often, since I eat them occasionally. Or bananas (or other produce)

I've never bought this as a filler, but I do buy a single jalepeno or two when I make guacamole. It's never more than ten cents. ;)

What about buying a huge potato wedge or 1 chicken finger from the deli? I think I paid fifty something cents for 1 chicken finger the other day.

When I needed a filler to get my minimum for the 3/30 and the 5/50, I was buying 2oz purell hand sanitizer for 1.29 and the goodys 4 ct powders for 1.39.
After the 1.00 q - I was only paying .29 and .39
- plus I got my total up enough to use the $3/30 and $5 off $50.

I have been wanting to find the individual cheerios but I don't see them in my stores. Are they around the deli or with the other cereals?
