    Default cheap gravy?

This is NOT a Publix sale, but there is so much more action here and also wanted to see if this is something Publix may BOGO soon?

Campbells canned gravy is BOGO at WD for $1.38. I have $0.40/4 q's that expire on 11/23...so I can't even use them if Publix does a BOGO, and the other ones I have are for only $0.25/4.

Is $0.69 a good price for canned gravy? I have heard that some put it in soups and stews to give it some oomph. And gravy packets are at least that price regularly right?

35 views and no replies. Where does something like this belong? I would love to have a couple people that have bought this in the past chime in...

cheap is making your own. a couple tablespoons of flour, a few teaspoons of oil, a chopped onion, a little pepper, and some seasoned salt. the gravy in the jars and cans are seriously lacking something called taste. the packets are way better.

I agree with pp. It's so easy to make your own gravy, cornstarch is another thickener you can use instead of flour. And the packets are better than canned also, my dollar general sells them for 3/$1.
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.

I have yet to buy canned gravy at all - and only get the gravy packs when I find some severely reduced on sale for .25 or less a piece.

I always make my own - meat drippings or fat/grease from the cooking, a beef soup boullion cube or two [depending on how much I am making - Maggie or Knorr comes to mind], [sometimes I add tomato paste for color and flavor but that depends on what the meat dish is], water, flour [or what works even better is cornstarch - less clumping] and then stir up very well and taste. Add salt, pepper [and/or other herbs depending on the dish] if needed.

For a deep red sauce [like gulash, beefstew etc, pork roast] add tomatoe paste and use paprika when spicing the meat.
For game [wild pork, deer, wild rabbit etc] and also some beef roasts or dometic rabbit, I may add some wine for flavoring. I also often use "creme fresh" or sour cream to lighten the gravy and mellow the flavor [although my personal preference is a more robust flavor].
I don't like white sauces [mostly used for veggies or friccassee] - so I don't make them, but they are basically just butter, salt, pepper, water + flour.
    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Thank you! I decided not to buy them. Great gravy ideas here!
