Competitor coupons at publix??!!

Ok, so I'm a newbie to the coupon thing....been at it a couple weeks....trying to follow all the rules here. Last Friday or Saturday I called my local Publix and questioned their coupon policy as I have read on here that every store is different. The gentleman on the phone said that they accept ALL competitor coupons...so I say "I have coupons for Winn-Dixie, Bruno's, and Target. You'll take all of these?" He says "yes, even the target ones!". I hang up the phone all excited and plan my shopping adventure for Sunday. Go Sunday, get all I need, scan all my coupons and the world is great!

Now...I go to the same publix today...armed with $8.00 in Target coupons. My cashier enters 2...then says "oh, yeah, you can't use Target". I explain that I used them last week....yadda yadda. She says no and cancels out the coupons she already entered. I was running late to get to my son's meet and greet at school and didn't have time to argue (and quite frankly...i'm a little nervous about it...i guess it'll pass with time).
So, I get home and call the manager and tell her my story. She says "Well, they shouldn't have accepted them the last time you were here. What's your question?" At this point I'm pretty furious...I'm in customer service and don't think that was handeling a customer's concerns at all.....but what can i do??? any suggestions?? am i just out that $8.00? after couponing for a couple of weeks and seeing how much $8.00 buys I'm not wanting to give up so easily.
Our local Target sells groceries. How does Publix decide which stores will take them and which won't??

I just confirmed this at my FL store today - Publix takes all
grocery competitor's ads. I specifically asked about Target
and was told as long as it was grocery, that was fine.

My Publix does not consider Walgreens (or CVS) to be a
competitor.

On a side note, I had been told previously that they do
not take competitors and a manufacturers together
but when questioning it today was told that YES, they
indeed do.

Maybe try another Publix in the area?

My suggestion is to speak with a manager at the store in person. If he says yes about the target Q's then get his name and use it!! If a cashier gives you a hard time tell her you spoke with xxx and he said it was policy to accept it. If the manager says no about the target Q ask the store manager! I wouldn't give up till I spoke with the biggest fish and received a definate answer!

I suppose you don't remember the name of the first person you spoke with, huh? If you do, I'd call back and question things and mention that person's name. And for the future, I agree about speaking with the manager of the store to get the store's policy for sure!

I always make sure to become friends with my mgr @ publix. When I know I might have a prob I go to Cust Serv and ask for the mgr. That way when I'm ready to check out we are good to go. My publix says they take all comp q's. They do not take CVS or Walgreens. They do take Target SuperStore q's.

My Publix will not take Target q's. Asst mgr was on duty and said no. We have a Target supercenter, so I don't understand why they won't. It is a competitor because it sells food and all the coupons were for food items. I made them take all those items off my order and didn't buy them.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what part of Florida are you in? I would be shopping at the Orange Park one and was very nervous about their coupon policy

I just shopped at the Publix near Bellair Road in Largo, FL this afternoon because the last time I was in there the Customer Service lady told me I could use Target coupons.....I was so excited and wanted to get in on the Lean Pockets before the Target coupons expire this weekend. Sure enough, they took (and do take Target) coupons! I was soooooo excited because I was able to get 6 boxes of Lean Pockets for $4 with the Target coupons!!!

I know! I was trying to use 6 of the lean pocket coupons and 4) .50 off goldfish coupons. I was so excited and didn't think there would be any problem since I called and used them not even a week before. That would have been such a good deal on those lean pockets :frown:
