The price of Lactaide went up at publix. gallon bottle is now 5.39 for whole milk and the 1/2 gallow went up an additional .50

Strangely, 2 gallons of 2% milk at Costco (Portland, OR) was 4.88 this week. Yep - TWO GALLONS (not clearance, not a cooler gone bad) just a lower price for some reason.

I priced the half gallons of organic milk today. Organic Valley is on Advantage Buy at $2/7, Horizon at $3.29.
The Organic Valley is the best deal at $3 per gallon after coupons. There is the $1/1 Organic Valley Publix store coupon in "All American Savings" yellow flyer, and $1/1 mfr in the "Go Organic for Earth Day" Publix booklet.
That's the best I'm going to get in my area.

The bad part is I really like Publix milk.......ever since they went hormone free I have bought almost all of my milk there....it always tastes good and rarely do I have problems with it going bad before we finish it up. I have had issues with the milk from Kroger going bad before we get through the gallon (same amount of time as we use Publix milk basically 5 days) so I don't know what the differences are.......does anyone know if Aldi's milk has the hormone free disclaimer on it?

Also for those of you who freeze milk -- if you freeze the milk and thaw it out for use say 3 weeks later.....how long will it typically last?

Thanks for all the suggestions on ways to save too!

Thanks to you NRpeace and pennywatcher for taking my huge OT and creating a separate place for it!

Can you tell me if the organic milk has a longer expiration date than regular skim? I was thinking I read that somewhere but may be completely wrong. I would pay $3 for organic milk.....I am slowly trying to convert us to organic, so far I have managed most fresh fruit, yogurt, some meats but haven't tried the milk yet.

TIA

Organic often has expiration dates a month out when I buy it. It's usually longer than the regular milk. :) The ones at my Publix the other day, though, were less than 2 weeks which is definitely a little odd.

I have been buying the organic lately, too, using the $1 Publix in the yellow flyer and another MFC out of the HFS coupon book. So, this week, after coupons, paying 1.50 per half gallon, or 3.00 per gallon. Cheaper than regular milk!
