Default Covergirl Crackdown?

Went to my normal Publix yesterday. I was going to buy the Covergirl lip glosses when I realized that it would be 1.97 after the 40% and then the cashier would have to adjust it down 10x (or I could get the Publix coupon overage which I didn't want to because I know its against their policy). So I opted for the more expensive route I got the 4.99 lip slicks which discounted to 2.99 for the sale then the publix 2.00 q would come off and I would still get 1.00 overage on my manufacturer's coupon of 2.00

2.99
-2.00 Publix

0.99
-2.00 Manufacturer's
+1.00 Overage

Well I decided to use the self checkout so the cashier wouldn't have to enter the Publix LU 10x. Well the self checkout machine coupon bin had a jam and I couldn't insert my coupons. The cashier controlling the self checkouts was already irritated with me because I had the nerve to ask for a price check on the lip slicks before I started. She now is rolling her eyes. She has to manually override each coupon because the machine is jammed. I asked her if I should just start over at another machine or go through the regular line because I have a lot more coupons. She said no and again was getting pretty rude sounding. Finally at about the 11th coupon (all 10 Publix q's were done and now I had started on the Covergirl manufacturer's) She said you can't use 2 coupons. I said I usually can- did something change (of course I go into immediate shakey mode where my intimidation factor is at an all time high) she said No that makes the item free (I know this isn't going to be good now....) So I said well I always have been able to do that in the past by now she has ALL my coupons in her hand since I had to just lay them aside after I scanned them because of the coupon bin jam- she throws my coupons back on the scanner causing several of the coupons to do their beautiful coupon float to the ground so I have to scramble around to pick them up then I decided to go over and ask her to just void the transaction- well when I got over there she was speaking to the head cashier or another cashier at least I explained my side of things and now both are rolling their eyes I said please I know you are already upset- let's just void it out and I'll go through the regular line she said NO JUST GO BACK THERE AND FINISH. With my tail between my legs (did I mention I had my 5 year old asleep in the cart and my 1.5 year old being rocked by daddy all in the line with me?) I retreated back.

So I kept going- now I'm at about my 4th covergirl manufacturer's coupon now a member of management comes into the situation. This just happens to be a girl I went to school with that is really sweet it made it akward though because the cashier is obviously ranting about me to her with hand motions and all. So I walk over there and explain my situation, she understands it but says well we will need to adjust the publix coupon down- the original cashier says SEE I TOLD YOU... you can't use both. I said actually what you are saying is that I can use two right but that I can't have the overage- of course my schoolmate says right- well then I said is that something new? Because of course I have done this many times in the past- she said no we always have to adjust the Publix coupon down so that there isn't any overage- I said there isn't overage on the publix coupon just the manufacturer.. then original cashier says SEE I TOLD YOU , YOU CAN"T DO THAT. Of course my school mate is a little taken back that the original cashier is being rude. Then I tried to explain it that you use the publix q first with no overage then the manufacturer's q... NO GO!!!

this all would not have happened if that coupon bin hadn't jammed. I left. Without any covergirl- no blueberries or cereal or pasta for my family. I really was at the point of tears. I was hurt. That was my store and my food and my coupons.

So....WHAT IS the policy? Was I right or the cashier/manager? What should I do?

Sorry this was so long...

I was told that I can not use a Publix and manuf. coupon together. I was always able to before Tuesday. It must be new policy.

I would call head office or at least the store manager. I used both my Publix CG coupons and the mfr coupons the other day, and got at least $2 overage on each. My $70 account came down to .39 - and I still had about $10 worth of coupons to use!

I also just may vary by store, but for your peace of mind, contact the store and sort it out so that next time you walk in there you can do it with your head held high. Also, try to get something in writing and take names!

First of all, I must say that a discussion with the Store Manager about the rude treatment you received is in order.
You should not let that cashier get away with that. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

The CS was correct, that is the way they are supposed to handle overages. Although overages are given sometimes at Publix, it is not a mattter of policy. They are trained to do the adjusting just as the CS described.

O.K. lets rewind. Your 5 year old was asleep in a Publix cart! Are your Publix's carts laced with Benedryl and cushions?

Am I the only one who caught that, or the only one who cares. Tell me your secret.
Forget Covergirl. A 5 yo asleep while a shop....Priceless. Like I dream of these things.
My 5 yo (as of yesterday). Hasn't taken a nap since he was 14 months.

I am sorry that cashier was so dang rude. I would do like nrpeace17 stated and contact management on the treatment you received. She had no business being that rude. As for overages, I have only gotten them once and it was because the cashier was new and didn't know what to do. I have usually my coupons adjusted down.
