Wow, definitely contact someone about that rude cashier! I don't know how they train their employees, but they must usually tell them that the customer is always right because those employees are always so nice!

I'm no help on the coupon adjusting, because my cashiers never usually check that the q's are less than the items's cost... and their registers aren't "smart" enough to catch it.

Oh and Bigdog... I did notice that mention of the sleeping 5 yo! That's crazy! My kids are 1 & 2, but there's no way they'd sleep in a cart at Publix... especially when there's free cookies to be had!

Rude customer service is very unusual at Publix. Their outstanding customer service is their claim to fame. I have had a couple of coupons questioned due to overage but always in a courteous manner. The rudeness definitely warrants at least a call to the store manager, if you don't get an apology there, notify corporate.

Hum...as far as not seeking overage, I probably would have simply bought the 1.97 nailslicks or the nailpolish, and went to a regular cashier. At the register, they would have been able to decide whether to give you the overage or not. Unless, I really wanted the more expensive brand, I wouldn't pay more in tax, or inconvenience myself over a few cent coupon difference. Many cashiers/managers are more concerned with how quickly the lines are moving, and how easy a trans is, than anything else..... They often do not care that you were trying to avoid getting .03cents or so in overage, but that they are having to do extra work.... I try my best to keep my transactions as smooth as possible.

Rude customer service is very unusual at Publix.
I agree..

I would have not gone further after realizing the coupon slot was jammed/full. Its a big indication that they've probably already been peeved off with the problem for some time. Not worth the chance at that machine.

Sorry they were rude, I'd get that straightened out. Good thing the manager was someone you knew who has manners or it could have been even worse.

No advice from me other than what has already been said. Just wanted you to know that I feel for you!! It's one of the worst feelings to be treated like a criminal by a rude cashier. I'm so sorry that had to happen to you.

And I too have to applaud your 5 yo sleeping in the cart! The day my son sleeps in any shopping cart is the day pigs fly!

At the 3 Publix stores I normally shop at, I always get the overage. As long as coupons don't beep, everything usually goes through. I never try using the Publix coupons with MF b/c the Publix coupons say "May not be used in conjunction with any other coupon."

Sorry for your awful experience. That is so rare for Publix! Customer service is so important to Publix so I would absolutely contact management (you can also praise the nice asst mgr at the same time)

Here's what annoys me - when they "mark down" a mfg coupon - the store still gets the face value for that coupon - I guess it's okay for them to get the overage....

There's one lady at "my" Publix who is ruder than rude, I've complained a few times, but she's still there - I avoid her line like the PLAGUE!!

Re: taking both a mfg and Publix coupon: I wanted something in writing to put in my binder so I emailed Publix. They didn't write back but a manager called me and told me it was okay. I feel confident now in saying "I talked to Mike...."

HTH

Overage isn't something we should come to expect. I know that with Publix it is likely, but I always go to the line expecting not to get it.

The thing with the CG & Sundown coupons is you don't have much room to "argue" your case. Both Publix coupons say "Cannot be combined with any other coupon" and "Must not exceed purchase price." To me, these aren't worth the hassle.

I am sorry you had such a horrible experience. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago and called CS. They were extremly apologetic but it still didn't make up for the fact that I was hurt and was treated like an idiot.

Anyhow, I tried doing the Covergirl deal last week and purchased the nail polish that rang up at $1.97 well they wouldn't allow me to use the $2 at all even after telling them to adjust the coupon value down so I left empty handed!! I was pissed!
