Default Anybody Else Unhappy w/PC Ending $1 Doubles

I just read about this and I have to admit that PC's ending Doubling $1 coupons forces me to no longer shop there as much as I used too. I didn't always have $1 coups but it was a nice feeling that they would double them. I sent them an email to complain about it, thats about all I can do except vote with my $ by not shopping there as much.

I started couponing regular back in 2000 and it seems over the years PC would keep changing their coupon policy. When I started there were basically no special conditions, they doubled all manufacters coupons up to $1. Then they limited it to 4 coups, then 2, then back up to 4, enough to make me dizzy. Then the 50% thing which was a bother the few times I surpassed it, usually I was under. Now the $1 limitation is the end for me.

My PC never doubled anything over .99 but I can understand if you are used to it then it would not be a nice change. From my understanding all stores are now doubling up to .99 so those that didn't get doubles before do now. I have never been around a store that doubles $1, it sure would get quite a bit of my business unless they jacked up the prices to compensate.

Yup--- I find this very upsetting--- I posted in the Shaw forum (they change some of there coupon policy too)--- I think that the show "extreme couponing" is hurting us---and the stores "higher ups" dont like what they see-- that why the store are going to tougher on us couponer's...

-- and the economy doesnt help--- and even if the gas prices go down, which acounts for shipping cost---- I dont think the price at the grocery store will---

and now I hear CT is taxing all food--- I feel really sorry for the people in CT, if that true----

I think Im just frustrated that its getting harder to save a dollar or even make a dollar--- and the sad thing is that dollar doesnt go very far--- I think that how most people are feeling.....

    thanks for letting me vent----

Like MilitaryWife (I am an ex Military wife too!), my PC never doubled over $0.99, so nothing here. I didnt know that some stores doubled $1 until they just ended it. MOST of my coupons are $1 so I cant imagine how much I would be saving if that had been the case for me all along. I only started couponing heavily a month ago and my head is still spinning LOL. Still trying to figure out the best storage methods and such.

Doubling $1 was very, very good. So very nice I never minded paying a bit more on other items. Over the last few years (economy) there are suddenly TV shows and websites encouraging people to coupon. Back in 2000 when I started my "strategic coupons" plan there were few people using them. I could go to my local newspaper store on Monday morning and get the coupon circulars from the the unsold Sunday local paper and get 8-10 copies of the circulars and go to PC. Thats all changed.

Back then I was one of the few really using coupons like that, I'd have 20 of each coupon I wanted, but when the economy went bad, back in late 07 and 08, I began to see more shoppers with coupons. To my mind this was not a good thing. In the past year they come with 9x12 notebooks, organizers and file folders crammed with coupons and now I also always see people holding a bunch in their hand while shopping.

OTOH, I only shopped PC and on some items I paid a bit more--now I'll use the other stores and use PC less.

I am very disappointed with PC. They have doubled $1.00 coupons for over 18 years in my area. I believe the show Extreme Couponers is to blame. There are now so many more people using coupons that it must be costing them money.

I went to PC today. My total before coupons and advantage were $257.44 and I paid $80.52, almost a 70% savings. My total included a 12-pack of Seagram's Escapes which was about $13 including tax and deposit.

I won't be shopping in PC anymore after 7/10. It's 30 minutes away so it won't pay to go there. I'm not even going to stop in and pick up a few items when I'm in the area for at least a month. I'm hoping that PC may try and see if their regular shoppers are actually not shopping there anymore by checking advantage card numbers. I want them to know I haven't been shopping there at all.

This all makes me giggle a bit. I do understand that the $1 double going to the .99 double is going to hurt shoppers big time. Really I get that, but for them to do it al all is just a money maker for them. The show made it that way. The stores are able to jack up prices and off set the doubles anyhow. I think there were only a handful of stores in the NE area that doubled, so the majority of the store that didn't you have these people who THINK they will be extreme shopping at .99 cent double. Others that shopped Hannaford or Walmart, guess what, they are thrilled because now they can EXTREME coupon too... So now they have more people that will offset the people that are mad and pitching a fit about losing their $1 double. So it's a win win for them. Me personally I think it is BS, if it isn't broke why mess with it. Keep the $1 for you guys that had it and give hope to the "extreme couponers" who now get it and will save millions.
Me I plan to shop here and there, no loyalty anymore since I have noticed PC prices went up $1 since last week at least on things that I have bought...I go to a butcher for my meats etc....and for other things I might go back to wacko-mart, it is almost like double coupon saving there since most things are cheaper by atleast .50 cents...

GL all you $1 people, I hope they either keep it or change it back eventually....

I agree with you Jenn, they can't get hurt since they control all the prices and can always adjust them very fast. Now, without coupons one will really pay more. People usually vote with their feet and their $.

Yesterday I stopped by the Grand Union in Rutland for 1 quick thing. I haven't been there for ages. Anyway, there were signs up reading, "We double coupons up to and INCLUDING $1.00." I made sure to read it a few times to make sure.

Last time I was there they only doubled if you had a matching GU circular coupon reading Double, which you presented w/your mfg coupon up to 99 cents. So as PC discontinues another store begins. I guess I'll be shopping at GU much more often for some items. Love competition.

We also have a Hannaford, but they don't double any coupons so I never shop there.

None of the PC's in my area have ever doubled $1 unless they have the extra clipable coupons in that week's flyer (usually 2 or 3). I shop by the sales. I check out all of my stores and see which one works best for me that week.
