Sometimes, even after giving the card last, it still happens, so I throw in a $10 gift card, at least I know I'll use towards my next purchase.
I give my card after my coupons and this seems to help with the 50% coupon rule. You have to know your cashiers I know which ones will do this others will not. Good Luck

It's simple....give your coupons to be doubled first.
You can give a horse a coupon, but you can't make it save.
I have not found a way around the 50% rule except to buy a gift card. Sometimes doing the coupons that don't double at the end will work. I quite often buy a $10 gift card and that usually does the trick and avoids any hassles. Still remember the good old days when PC didn't have this rule.
I asked for a copy of PC's coupon policy a couple years ago and was sent one. Posted in the stores currently that I go to is:
"The total of all coupons cannot exceed one-half the total purchase, after AdvantEdge discounts."
This is also stated in their coupon policy, not in the double coupon portion but the regular coupon portion and I was told this by CS. Technically this would mean coupons that double and those that don't. Now I have never had a problem with them accepting coupons at face value once the 50% rule has been met. There are a few exceptions to their regular coupon policy. Those exceptions are the special triple and double coupons in their flyers. Here's the wording from the letter I received:
"Please understand that we do, on occasion publish special double and triple coupons that are accepted outside the parameters of our standard coupon policy."
I had $30.50 in oyno catalinas the other day, 9 total. The first three scanned with no problem but the fourth wouldn't go through and needed a manager's override. The manager came over and put through all the oyno cats with no problems.
As I said my coupon policy letter is 2 years old but I haven't seen any changes in the way my PC accepts coupons since I got the letter.

ERRORS on the transaction:
(4 kids in tow was error #1)
Gave my $1 Q's first... should have given them last.
NORMALLY I separate the "double-ables" and hand them over first. I paperclip the 2 piles separately and then together...After those are all scanned, I hand over the $1 and higher values.
SOOOOOO:
By reviewing my receipt, the 50% rule hits AFTER the ADVANTAGE savings... because I didn't have over $11.26 in Q's...I had 5.75 before it hit.
After Advantage I was at a total of 12.77, so I would hit the doubles at 6.38 which is what happened. If that last 0.75 Q had doubled, it would have gotten me to $6.50 (over the 50% rule)
Did that make sense?

To summarize what Jourdysmom did a great job of listing... the 50% rule goes into effect after the price plus discounts are deducted... so if with price plus your total is 50.00 and then you have more than 25.00 worth of coupons (after they are doubled if applicable) then they stop the doubling on any additional coupies. So, that is why you give the non-doubling coupons last. :)
My price chopper has caught on with the gift cards. I can no longer buy gift cards with my order and must be done seperatly. Now, I am told I can only use coupons up to 50% of my order and after that, I CANNOT use any more coupons. I told the FEM that I could use them, but once I reach 50%, they will only be at face value. No go. I called PC customer service and they verified my understanding of the coupon policy. I also got the following in an email:
All Coupon Transactions
· A Price Chopper AdvantEdge card must be scanned prior to coupon deductions.
· Only one manufacturer's coupon may be used on an item.
· Refund and Rebate checks are to be cashed at the Customer Service Desk.
· The total of all coupons cannot exceed one-half the total purchase, after AdvantEdge discounts. With the exception of triple coupons, which cannot exceed the total order after AdvantEdge discounts.
· Free items, Buy One / Get One offers, mail in certificates and unspecified items will be redeemed at face value or free value only.
· Total double or triple value redemption of manufacturer's coupon may not exceed the item's retail price after Advantage Discounts.
Double Coupons - up to $1 (maximum of 2 same item)
A maximum of two coupons of the same item/brand may be doubled; please present a manufacturer's coupon for each
According to the policy marked in red, the total of all coupons cannot exceed half the total purchase. So, does this mean that once the coupon total reaches 50%, then no more coupons can be used? I am so confused because the person I called says otherwise.
Yes that is my problem too, It's hard doing so with Price Chopper. =[
I always just use my doubles first. I keep them separate and hand them my advantage card, then the doubles, then the non doubles.
