QUESTION Using Manufacturer's Coupons at PetCo

I have been using more coupons at PetCo lately and have noticed the following problem:

When a manufacturer's coupon requires buying more than one item, the PetCo cash register only gives a discount equal to the price of one of the items, not the amount on the coupon.

For example:

I buy 12 cans of Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys cat food and use a manufacturer's coupon for $1.00 off 12 cans.

The price per can after the PetCo Pals discount is $0.80, or $9.60 for 12 cans.
The cashier scans the coupon and is prompted to enter the SKU for the item that goes with the coupon. The SKU is for one can so the register only takes $0.80 off, not $1.

It also happens with the Friskies $0.50 off 12 cans coupon.
The price for one can is $0.45 so the register only takes $0.45 off, even though I bought 12 cans.

I have to point it out to the cashier every time so that they can manually put in the the additional credit. This can be a big hassle depending on the cashier.

The manager at my local PetCo says it is a problem with the coupon and that I should just mention it when checking out. There is nothing else they can do. However, the problem has never happened with the same coupons at PetSmart or at the grocery store. I think the problem is with the way PetCo enters the coupons (they enter a single SKU and the computer thinks it is on that item only).

Has this happened to anyone else at PetCo? :shrug7:

I am sure many people have used coupons and not noticed that they did not get full credit for them. PetCo probably redeems them for the full amount though

Sorry this has happened to you lately.. I have NEVER used a coupon at PetCo.. however, I was wondering do the coupons that use there give you problems, for instance I received from Iams $1 off any treat... if the treat is .89 would it beep or go right thru... thanks for any advice!!

Do you know if you can use Petco and MFG Q's on the same item? TIA

nicolenylic:
If the treat costs $0.89 and the coupon is for $1 off 1 then the Petco register will take off the $0.89 that you were charged (no overage). In my experience, the cashier always has to scan or enter the UPC number for an item after scanning a manufacturer's coupon.

The problem I have (especially with canned cat food coupons) is that the coupon is $1 off for buying 12. The register only gives the discount for the price of 1 (which is less than $1) even though I followed the coupon and bought 12 (the total for 12 is way more than $1). I think their system does not know that the coupon requires buying more than one. The cashier always has to do a manual override for the difference (and I ALWAYS have to ask - they don't do it otherwise)

katieyj:
I have used a Petco survey coupon for $2 off a $5+ item and the $5 off $25 coupons along with manufacturer's coupons without any problems. I have not used a Petco coupon for a specific item and a manufacturer's coupon for the same item together (I haven't seen any Petco coupons for the cat foods that I buy).

Thanks!! I know at Petsmart.. there registers allow for overage. So it makes it nice if you have treats that cost less there than the coupon... hth!!
