DD3 Rebate found at Petco FAR Royal Canin

I have been having a problem with my cat not eating and loosing a lot of weight since her friend left.
I was reading and found this pet food that is NOT cheap. Royal Canin 35/30 for picky cats. I had done a little bit or research, enough to know this is an expensive brand of food, but my cat's life may be at stake and I can't loose her too.
Well, one thing that I was worried about is that I would spend $17.99 (PLUS TAX) for this 3.5lb bag of overpriced cat food and she might not like it, even though I have read where people say their cats that won't eat anything else but WILL eat this.
I went to Petco since it is the closest chain pet store and what do my wondering eyes find?
"Try Royal canin Felin Health Nutrition for FREE" form right below this food.
You have to purchase one of the several indoor formulas, but they will refund your entire price for a 2.5-3.5lb bag.
Must be purchased between Feb 1 and Feb 28th.
Includes 3lb Indoor Intense Hairball 34, 3lb Indoor Adult 27, 3lb Indoor light 40, 3lb Indoor Beauty 35 and 2.5lb Indoor Mature 27.

This rebate is through Petco/Royal Canin

Oh and something else happened while we were there, we also walked out with 2 more cats...because 3 was not enough.

I've had the same problem with a cat not eating. I did not use the picky eaters kind, I got the kitten formula because it has more calories and this cat started eating it so quickly he didn't chew and ended up throwing it back up within 5 minutes of finishing eating. I ended up having to mix it in with another food to slow him down.

Something else you might try is getting an adoption booklet if you adopted from petco. The booklets we have here actually have a coupon for a free bag of premium food, and it includes royal canin. They would have given you either a dvd called pets incredible that has a yellow paper inside of it that says bring in for your free adoption booklet or a paper that basically registers you for a petco card but it will get you an adoption booklet as well.

Good luck with your cat!

The books did have the coupon for free, however, the lady that helped us the the adoptoin of the 2 cats we got decided I needed to get science diet for the 2 cats, and so I got 2 bags of SD kitten food.

When I first poured this food into the bowl she ate it like she was starving...HOWEVER now, she barely is eating it again.

Yesterday I went to the local pet store (not a chain) looking for the Claw caps that Petco doesn't carry. What do I find? Thier Royal Canin is $2.50 CHEAPER per bag. They don't carry the picky cat kind (which is what I am thinking I will have to buy now). Also the local pet store as a deal, for every 10 bags you buy you get a free bag. Sounds like a much better deal than Petco.

Yes, they are paid to push science diet(well science diet give them really really cheap food..i think they only pay shipping). It really is crap food....overpriced purina cat chow if you read the ingredients. For comparitive purposes you can go to dogfoodanalysis.com and read about it. I know it is dog food but it is by many people who make cat foods. Actually, royal canin isn't much better but it was a free bag and I don't turn down free bags. Have you opened the other bag of food? Maybe petco will let you exchange it. The prices at Petco are the most expensive around here, the only thing I ever go there for is sale with a coupon.

You may not need the picky eater, I've heard all types of royal canin are good for cats that aren't eating and the kitten formulas almost always have more calories. Kittens losing weight tends to be bad news. Good luck!!

She is actually 4 yrs old and in Mourning, that is a lot of her problem-she misses the cat that is my Avatar he died 12-23-2008.

I went to my local pet store and pretty much they say everything you do. From the Science Diet comments (both rescue and crap) and the Royal Canin comment. I am going to keep the Royal Canin just because it is FAR.

She is eating the Science Diet kitten food right now and seems to be enjoying that, but I know she can't stay on that for ever. The pet store ecouraged me buy another brand-Eagle Pack. They were willing to get the Selective RC in for me but after talking with them and them telling me the Royal Canin isn't all that either, and that there are others that are cheaper and better, I tried one of them instead. They too said I could bring back any food she doesn't like so atleast I don't feel stuck with it.

The other cats eat any old kind I get (really cheap or free with coupons) at the grocery store, it is really just this one that is having problems. Even her treats, after she has a different brand for a few days she stops eating them, she just bites them in half and leaves them.

Riann thanks for your help! I probably wouldn't have thought to try the kitten food if it wasn't for you. I feel better that atleast she is eating something.

Please be careful with your cats not eating. My cat has not been eating as much the last few weeks. I took her to the vet and they are doing liver tests. She definitly has something going on with her liver. She's only 7 years old too.

So far the testing has been just over $300.00. I would pay anything to have my sweety be well.

Make sure you have your babies checked if it goes on too long. The sooner you catch liver problems the better chance your cat has.

Hugs,

My friend has a Maine Coon and he eats the MC variety like it's going out of style.
