This is a great thread! I am so in! I too have no garage, little attic space and no basement. My "laundry room" is also my pantry. The sunroom is our junk room/shed. I love to organize, (although you could never tell by looking at our closets and junk areas) but I find it difficult to KEEP it that way. My DH and I are trying to come up with a system to keep things orderly and organized. We have 4 children (one being a toddler...which causes me to not get much done) So, if anyone has ideas on keeping things orderly after things are organized I'd love to hear it!

My first project was clearing out our coat closet in our foyer downstairs so we could actually use it for coats. I also hung up a door shoe holder thingy and now have the 3 girls put their shoes in there as soon as they walk in the door. No more wasting 15 minutes in the morning looking for everyones shoes. Yippeeeeee!
Next project is getting all the indoor Christmas stuff put away (yes, I'm ashamed it is still up). Got the outdoor decorations down a couple of days after New Years because I was afraid I was going to get a fine for breaking neighborhood covenents (no kidding). Good thing they can't see inside our house! My 3 year old was very upset yesterday when I said we have to take the Christmas tree down, but I told her we have to get ready for the Easter Bunny (ugh!) and then she was happy!

3) Garage. I wouldn't even begin to know where to start in there,
has lots of left over garage sale items
4) Videos that have been taped from tv programs, I can say that there are over 500 of them, plus we have over 400 videos that we have bought.
I know that will take some time to go thru all of them.

It is really time to get all this stuff either pitched, donated, or decide what I only need to keep. It has taken over way to long, and now its time to go.

I have 2 or 3 large boxes of taped shows. Probably wouldn't miss them if I just tossed them out but how do you dispose of these. Does anybody know if you can get in trouble for copying them and then giving them to good will or free-cycle?

This is an awesome idea. I think I'm going to jump on the wagon, but I'm only going to do 15 minutes a day to start. I've never been organized but now with the 2 kids if I don't try my best, no one else is going to do it and I'm gonna be drowning in toys and old clothes. Good luck to you all who attempt it. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

OK I am on the wagon......

We live in an apt. with not much storage/extra space. I have already turned my linen closet into a pantry! My biggest task to organize would be the master bedroom closet. My problem is I baby sit from 6a-630p, by time kids leave I do not want to do anything. Not to mention my DH works nights and is a screwed up schedule. It seems when I have a day I could do this he is sleeping. I also need a spot to put news papers to be recycled. My DS has a paper route and always has extra papers, I hate throwing them out when they benefit our Humane Society. I just don't seem to make it there weekly to drop the papers off.

OK off to go organize something!! Now if it will just stay organized that's another problem too!

I'm so excited to find this thread!! I'm trying, trying, trying to get organized. Amazon and ebay have completely taken over the house. Thanks for the inspiration!

It's never too late. That Christmas tree that I was going to take down 12 days ago finally got taken down yesterday. My cousin said "you know it is almost February". I have never left it up this long and am so ashamed. We just seemed to be out of town so much lately that it never got done. I say all this to tell you that I'm just now getting around to start the real organizing, so I'm just really starting now myself.

Default Re: Getting Organized in 2008!

So my plan for today is to drop the kids off at pre-school and school and then go to the gym (yeah, haven't been in 2 weeks). Then come home and start on my youngest daughter's room. The toys are taking over her room and there isn't much room in there for her (and she is small ). I am going to throw out the toys that are broken and donate all the baby toys, because there will be no more babies in this house (3 kids is my personal limit). I love my girls but the 3 year old is going to give me gray hair and wrinkles early. I know, just wait until she is in middle school.

HAPPY DANCE Re: Getting Organized in 2008!

Okay, I have new shelves in that I ordered from WalMart for my "office!" here is a picture of them from the website:

Now I have to clean up my area and move the existing shelves and desk. My goal is to get my area cleaned up today so my DH can put them up for me!
