I was accepted to the People to People Ambassador Program to go with them to China next summer!
I'm super excited about going. The only problem I seem to be having is raising the money. I've told friends and family about my trip, but most of them won't be able to donate until later on and I have to have the deposit payed soon. I also created an account with a crowdfunding site called peerbackers.com. I'm offering what I think are pretty good rewards for donations.
I'm not sure what else I can do to make people aware that I'm trying to raise money. Does anyone have any suggestions??

A young lady from my church needed to raise money for a mission trip. She rented a costume and hosted a children's tea party with Cinderella. She had a few really simple crafts, some snacks, and a magic trick or two. That's it. Rather than charge admission she simply asked for donations. This seems like a great idea!

I'm more likely to give donations to someone who is offering some sort of "service" or "product", than for someone that is just asking for donations.

I'll never forget this...

I was going into Wal*Mart and there was a basketball team asking for donations to get their team to Disney World....it really rubbed me the wrong way. They weren't offering candy, cookies totes, NOTHING.

I've never been to Disney World myself! I'm not going to just fork over money for a stranger to go to Disney World.
Sure, they were kids but still!

If they were selling cookies to go to disney world, I would have been more than happy to have helped though.

My daughter has been part of the international global teens program
She had to raise money for her trip to Thailand and South Africa ( one trip each summer)
One year she held a raffle for a sony digital camera She raised about $500 and since my sister offered to buy the prize she was raflling off as her contribution it didnt cost anything.

Also you can make simple things such as bracelets, cupcakes, etc. and sell them to raise money.

The son of one of my workmates participated in a similar travelling event but he stayed in the USA. One of his fund raising projects was to recycle aluminum cans. His Dad put out a box here at work with a sign stating cans were for ... and we all put our cans in for him.

Just got more info from the Dad. The son made up flyers and distributed within his neighborhood and the next two nieghborhoods asking the homeowner to save their cans for him to help him go on the trip. He then bought Glad trash bags and routinely went back to each home to see if they had any cans for him. If they had cans then he gave them a clean bag for the next time. He earned over $900 during the summer with this project.

I just know just the usual fundraising but I saw these links and perhaps you could look through and get some ideas and then post your own campaign with a ticker and countdown or check out the others. I wish you lots of luck and hope you enjoy your trip. Try getting involved with the Church and volunteering I am sure they will help out plus meeting more people . HTH
