    Default Losing weight while taking blood thinner-Help Please!

    I need to lose some weight but there is one small catch. I take coumadin (blood thinner) daily. I'm not supposed to eat green leafy vegetables, or soy. So there goes salad, lots of vegetables, and even peanut butter. So my question is do any of ya'll take blood thinner and have to deal with this. I am having a really hard time finding foods that I can eat that are healthy and won't affect my medicine. Thanks for any help or ideas

    Since I'm a snacker, I eat a lot of yogurt, granola and cereal bars (like Special K) and soup is a lifesaver.
    I make my own with chicken or beef broth and lots of veggies - onion, bell pepper, corn, peas, green beans, carrots, etc and a little bit of pasta or beans too. Just whatever I feel in the mood for or what I have on hand. I can add canned or frozen veggies too and that makes it easier and cheaper to make. I just get out my big pot and make a week's worth at once.

    Soup is filling and comforting, so it's a huge helper in my regular diet.

    Thanks Cynthia. Any other ideas ya'll. Surely I'm not the only one around here that takes blood thinner!

    My mom takes Coumadin so I definitely know where you are coming from when it comes to the veggies and other foods you have to avoid. One thing she does is she eats an iceberg lettuce salad every day. As long as you eat the same amount of Vitamin K every day it won't make a big difference in your levels. Just make sure that you have your bloodwork done to make sure they're at the right place when you're eating the amount of veggies you are going to stick with.

    Things she likes that she doesn't have to regulate the amount of by a lot are peas, carrots, tomatoes, squash/zucchini, corn, onions, green beans, bell peppers. ETA she also eats a lot of sweet potatoes, too.

    I know that she also uses a George Foreman grill a lot to make chicken breasts at home, and she also likes doing baked potatoes a lot. I hope that helps!
