Lets Get Physical 20 1/2 weeks til my vacation

I'm going to Cancun in December (about 20 1/2 weeks), and right now I weigh 229lbs (i haven't told anyone this...it's a big thing for me to post it here)....It's my goal to lose as much weight in a healthy way as possible by then....The last time I dieted, at first I was losing about 1/2 a pound to a pound a day for the first couple of weeks, then it kind of evened out at 1-3 lbs a week...i used sparkpeople then, so i'm going to start using them again...

It's my goal to be down to at least 170lbs by then....That's about 3lbs a week...I know it's more than recommended, but like i said, because i am so big now, at first the weight will fly off (if i keep up with the gym and eating healthy).

I'm hoping posting on here will keep me motivated....

I'm preying....I hate being "the fat one" :sad:

My problem is I'm an emotional eater....and i've been under so much stress lately....Something i will definately have to work on....wish me luck....

Good luck to you. That's a goal with a healthy lead time. Only thing I can think of concrete is to replace your emotional eating with some other activity. First, ask the question each time you eat (especially, the "junk stuff") if the result is really worth the momentary enjoyment and remind yourself what you are striving to achieve. And just because you, for example, open a bag of chips/cookies, does not mean you have to eat half or finish it. At each point you stop before you would have previously, you have at least made improvement. I vote to weigh yourself often (at least weekly); don't get too bogged down by the numbers but you have to see progress, recognize it, celebrate it.

I'm a dietary moderate, the healthy, less healthy and truly no reason to eat it except for enjoyment, the entire spectrum. So I don't say to myself that any foods are off limits, but portion and frequency do matter.

Also, I do hope you have exercise figured in, not just for this project, but as something which can improve your overall health and longevity.

The last time I was on a diet, i weighed myself every morning with a scale that showed ounces and pounds...so i could see if i lost 1/5 of a pound, etc, etc. It was nice. There weren't many days that I didn't lose something. I just got stressed and fell off the wagon...gained it all back...

I'm joining the gym tomorrow. :) At $50 a month family membership, it will force me to go often (I hate spending that much).

You can do it! I lost 30 pounds and feel great. I am 5'4 and was 150 pounds I am 120 now I want to lose another 10 and will feel great

Good Luck to you!! Drink LOTS OF WATER!! No matter what diet your on, get in the habit and keep it up. This is not only good for weight loss but healthy for your body and mind too. When your stressed walk, when your depressed walk, and when you want to eat emotionally keep a journal. These are things I have tried and helped me in the past. No night eating whatsoever and remember to keep your dinner the last meal everyday. Bring a big glass of water to bed with you and once in bed, don't leave :) Put a pic of you when your were skinnier on your refigerator and remember how happy you were back "then". Most of all no matter what weight you are when you go on your cruise ENJOY it!

I almost wish I had 20 and 1/2 weeks because I would like to lose before vacation...I am leaving in 3 and 1/2 weeks to Kauai for 11 days so I guess I will have to suck it up and promise myself I will make myself do it after I get back!!

i'm actually going to put a pic of the beach at cancun on my fridge...as soon as i get a color ink cartridge...

melodyjg...have a great time on your vacation...you could always start planning next years vacation...

i would recommend sparkpeople.com to everyone. it's a pretty cool site for dieters...

i really did not want to get up today and go work out, but i forced myself too...my body is a little upset (esp since i have to go to work in a bit) but i'm just proud that i spent 30 minutes walking today....
