OMG.....this explains a lot. We recently got 2 large bags of friskie's indoor formula dry cat food at Target on sale ( same formula & brand they have been eating for over a yr). Our cats won't eat it...they just stand in front of their bowls & meow. I've noticed an increase in throwing up & they sneak food from the dog bowls whenever possible. we have switched to feeding them each wet food for now & are currently seeking a better quality cat food to go to.

I would bet it is no false alarm, sadly these major corporations cut costs at the expense of its consumers. I don't remember any organic brands, but I do remember Blue Buffalo being part of it.

This is why I feed my dog Taste of the Wild GRAIN FREE. It is expensive but my baby's health is top concern over saving coinage.

I am SO GLAD i clicked on this . I am walking out the door to buy kitty food and she has ate Purina for years. She used to eat IAMS and she was having shiny fur but Pamela Anderson did a video on them and they test the food on animals and if you can actually bare to see suffering animals watch it , if not stay away from all the IAMS food. It was cats and dogs missing chunks of their little bodies and limping from them pulling fat of them to see how the food reacts.

If you live east of the Mississippi-Dad's dog food is a very safe bet. I live 45mins away from where they make it and they only use ingredients from local farmers. Also, Rachel Ray Nutrish line is made by them n is a safe bet. I can't prove it, but I think Milk Bones were the cause of my 1st shih tzu's bladder stones. how I made the connection my moms friends dog[also a tzu] eats them like crazy n my mom dog sat her in Oct n she had all the signs n had to have surgery a day later. Too bad these companies don't care about anything but profit and if the cheapest supplier is in China-they go that way no matter the cost as long as they get richer.

Not much help on suggestions because my kitty has been on RX Royal Canin So since Halloween. (BTW...if your cat looks like they are constipated, RUN to the vet, life threatening! Cats do not get constipated, they get urinary blockages, especially males. I did not know this)
I did post about a bad experience with Purina with bugs etc last year HERE Since, any bags of pet food that I buy, whether for my kitty or for donation, automatically get put in ziploc bags or containers when they come in the house!
Thank you for posting this, it was heartbreaking to read and brings back a lot of memories from my dog and other cats that had passed. While they were primarily on Nutro, I had switched my final female to Purina prior to her death.
I am not a tremendous fan of Nutro anymore, but my family uses the mini chunks for their dogs and they are pretty healthy babies.
Life is a learning process for helping me in my journey!

eh, I'm taking these with a grain of salt. I work in the vet field, and can tell you that most of these that say "bought a bag because it was on sale and it gave my dog/cat diarrhea", it's because they did an immediate switch over. Dog's and cat's systems are delicate and need to be slowly transitioned. ANY food they bought and did that would give them diarrhea or vomiting. I have no doubt that some of the stories on there are from the food, some dogs just can't handle certain foods, but I have a hard time believing all of these are purely from Purina.

Thanks for sharing. I had 4 bags of Purina One Beyond dog food I bought recently with the $5 coupon. I'm throwing it in the garbage. My dogs have eaten some of it, but I always mix at least 3 different brands of dry food together since I buy different brands regularly and don't want them to have a sudden change in foods. Of course I just filled their tub last night. I think it'll be ok to finish the "mix" but the rest of the bags are going in the trash. I won't even, in good conscience, donate it or give it away....

My cat got really sick a few months ago and had to be put down. I really wonder now if the food had anything to do with it....

I am so, so thankful for this info. We have two 6 week old half Papillon/half Chihuahua fur babies. Thankfully, we have not fed them Purina. We came really close to purchasing Purina Puppy kibble but opted for Walmart's Ol Roy brand instead. Since their mama had weaned them at 4 weeks, they had been eating Pedigree Puppy Lil Champions {pouches}...so we kept them on that for a bit. We decided to try something different that would last a little longer...so we bought the Fred's brand Puppy Beef/Chicken in a can and we're also mixing in a little of the dry {Ol Roy} puppy kibble to get them used to eating dry food. Since they were weaned so early, we got the vet's approval for adding a little goat's milk to their food as well. Since switching from the Pedigree food, they have boundless energy and bounce up and down like two little flying squirrels. So, so glad we didn't give our babies Purina.....and it is now a brand that has been blacklisted at our house. Thanks again for the info!

    I just gotta say...

Before everyone burns their Purina stockpile, please Google any brand on the market & you will find complaints from them too. While I don't doubt the OP or anyone else that's had issues, please think twice before you destroy/dump something that has worked for you & your dog all along.
