Okay, all these ideas are great for helping to train the animal, but meanwhile your carpet is ruined and your house probably smells like urin even if you clean the spots. Not to mention the mold and urin crystals under the carpet pad will start making you and your family sick. Tear the carpet out! Personally I would put vinyl down in all his favorite spots, you can even get vinyl that looks like wood floors, but so much easier to clean urin out of. It's also very cheap and economical. I have two dogs, and two cats and thankfully all mine are trained awesome right now. However in the past we had a Husky who in his older age had trouble holding his urges (tumors and all kinds of bad stuff caused it) and would mess all over our floor. We pulled out all the carpet in the house, replaced with parquet, tile and vinyl depending on the area, and never had a problem with smells or trying to clean up a disgusting carpet for 6 hours out of my weekend again. It allowed us to be happy with our Husky's last year of life, and if your pup is only 1, I think you should just get this over with so you can have a happier life. And by the way, if you pulled up the carpet and looked at the mold and urin crystals under the pad, you would be so disgusted you'd probably never have carpet again. (How I felt at least)

Definitely on our list of things to do - I HATE carpet! However, just doesn't fit in the budget right now. We do a good job of cleaning and get our carpets professionally cleaned every 6 months or so, so there is no urine smell. I do, however, agree that the carpet needs to be gone. Finding the money and time to do it however is another matter. I work 60(ish) hours a week for 9 months out of the year, so it's just not feasible at the present time.

I believe it is, but not positive. They have several different formulas for different uses, you may want to ask your local pet store associate (Or just read the back of the bottle, that's what they do anyways!)

Try not yelling at her when she goes in the house! Just ignore it and clean it up. We had a miniture poodle who loved going potty in the house just so she could get negative attention when being yelled at. She was three years old and still pottying in the house! Once we stopped yelling at her and began ignoring the indoor pottying and only making a fuss over the outdoor pottying she stopped!!

I have had my pug since she was 6 wks old! It took a few good months to potty train her to use bathroom outside. She is now 2yrs old and is the best bathroom user outside. We have a fence in back yard that we toss her out to use potty. I am also thankfull we only have carpet in bedrooms and room over garage. Pugs are very smart dogs that need a little treat or something when they do something good. I have been giving my pug mini dog biscuit. We treat are little pug like another child. She sleeps with my hubby and me at night and knows if she does something she isn't allowed too!

I am a veterinarian and hear this all the time.

DO NOT USE PEE PADS, that will encourage the bad behavior. Your best bet is to positively reinforce your pets for going outside by praising them and offering a treat. When they do go inside, immediately let them know it is not allowed by using your command such as "no" or "bad" whatever you use often that they respond to and immediately take them back outside. But, only do this ONCE and not in a mean way. Never scold your animal if you do NOT catch them in the act such as when you return home as they do not know why the are in trouble. If you do scold them when you return home, they will associate you returning with them being in trouble and your animal will become timid.

The older the pet, the harder it becomes to break bad habits. The best way to teach any animal is positive reinforcement when they do what you want them to. And of course, NEVER hit/spank your pets. Doing this will only create an aggressive animal which is more likely to associate hands with pain and promote biting.

I have rased dogs my entire life and potty training doesnt have to be difficult but you have to stick to it everyday at the same time. Train her just as you would pottytrain a child. Taking her for a walk right after her meals is the best way for her to get preoccupied with all the smells of other animals and mother nature, she will instinctively go marking her territory; I know you are running around in the AM trying to get ready for work so just a quick 10-15 min. walk should do the trick; do this everyday and she will train herself; she will associate the fun time with the bathroom time. It should do the trick. It sounds like she is marking her territory you have to be consistent. If that isn't working, take her water away after her meals return it after she pees or for her next meal; only until she learns the reason she is to go outside. Good Luck
