gosh i am no help. but give you a bump just in case
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but we are getting desperate in Texas for quality horse hay that doesn't break the bank.Anyone know of anyone in the bordering states that has hay for a reasonable price? Prefer round bales but will take squares if I can't get hold of rounds. Will need about 15-20 round bales or 300-400 square bales. Just putting it out here in case someone has a hook up.
Many thanks...
Cheryl

I pretend tomushrooms. It makes it so much easier to kill them.
I live in the South East Kansas area and I haven't noticed a decrease in hay production as of yet. We are only about 35 minutes or so from the border of Oklahoma. You would want to look at the towns of Independence, Coffeyville, Parsons, Oswago, Altamont, Cherryvale, Arkansas City.
There are farmers that literally have so much that it just sits on there land year to year and they do nothing with it. I wonder if you could contact the chamber of commerce or maybe even just the city of these area's (heck even some of them have FB pages) and see if they could put you in touch with someone who has some to sell.
We are in the drought too...luckily we had a crazy wet spring, so we are not running out of water...but the corn and soy crop is basically ruined this year.
If your more on the Witchita side of TX I could ask around, but I don't live there, so not sure if they have as much ample hay as we do.

We are in Farmersville about 1 hour to the OK border.... I'll check out those cities to see if I can find anything, thank you. We aren't that close but its worth the drive if we can find hay in Witchita side of TX... be glad for any assistance.
Thanks.

It's bad in Texas, as you know. Lots of people have had to sell their livestock, some of them all of it. My Hubs makes hay but he is being forced to keep every bit of it this year.
I would recommend running some ads in Craigslist. Good luck.

I know its terrible.. my regular supplier just told me the round bale he brought this week is IT until we get rain...I've been looking on craigslist too but everyone is wanting so much money for the hay and its garbage for the most part. Can bring it in from another state but minimum I've found is 43 rolls for $125 per roll
I can't afford that out of pocket so trying other avenues. Something will come I've put out feelers to every single person I know in the rescue world too... gonna need some quick!!!
Thanks.

And unfortunately at a time like this is when it's going to go for top price. What types are you looking for?
There's a guy here in town that has been making hay forever. A while back some (insert very bad word here) torched his hay. They destroyed a lot of it and the bad part was it had already been sold, just not picked up yet. THEN, the (again, insert very bad word here) came back and torched the rest of it. Can you imagine how sick this guy was????? He thinks it was teen-age boys that had asked to ride their 4-wheelers in his hay field and were told no.

Sent you a PM with a phone number.

My sister mentioned to try the farm's bureau Kansas Farm Bureau
I will ask my friends on the Wichita side what it looks like over there.

Im having the same problem you are. Except im in SW Mo. All the hay in my area is being shipped out so i cant find none. I finally bought 10 sq bales for $5 each. What made me mad is there real light probably 40 pond bales at the most. I still need at least 20 more to hold my goats over threw the winter.
