I am pretty sure I've read/heard that once they've started spraying they will usually continue to do so even after neutering. I think the best chance to not have that happen is to get the neutering done as soon as possible (obviously too late for you but FYI for anyone else). That said, I hope you don't get rid of him for this; he is only doing what is natural to him.
I am not 100% certain about these things though; you might want to do some googling about it.
